You can disagree and argue as much as you like but the point of evaluating something scientifically is that not every statement should be given equal credence because evidence matters

James Watson, dead at 97, was a scientific legend and a pariah among his peers James Watson, the co-discoverer of the structure of DNA who died Thursday at 97, was a scientific legend and a pariah among his peers.

A Sharon Begley byline, almost 5 years after her death.

Upon hearing the news James Watson had died, a STAT reporter said in our Slack, "I wish I could read what Sharon would have written."

Incredible news: Sharon in fact did pre-write a Watson obit. And it is masterful and excoriating.

I didn't get a picture of the best sign I saw today, but I remember what it said:

Somewhere in America
A little Hispanic girl
Is hiding in an attic
And keeping a diary.

What an absolute treasure Diane Keaton was. Her wit never tired, nor did her style.

I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.

Fantastic 4th quarter comeback. Almost like another Michigan QB who spent some time in the NFL.

Beautiful mural honoring Henrietta Lacks painted by Baltimore community members popped up near Hopkins med campus recently.

From molecular structures to research culture: Celebrating Rosalind Franklin’s legacy | Royal Society Rosalind Franklin never lived to see the full impact of her discoveries. She didn’t witness how her work on DNA would revolutionise biology, nor did she witness the impact she would have in…

Born #OnThisDay in 1920 was Rosalind Franklin. Her work on X-ray diffraction images of DNA helped lead to the discovery of its structure, but her efforts were only recognised posthumously. Liz Sockett FRS and Isabelle Moss reflect on her enduring legacy:

I need everyone on Normal People internet to know that American Girl Doll Instagram is doing doll protests today. There are tiny t-shirts and signs. AND THEN I realized it's a joint protest with the Barbie ppl, where there are EVEN TINIER SIGNS.

Given all that is going on consider this quote from Bertram Russell's 1930 book The conquest of Happiness:
β€œThe man who can be interested in the structure of atoms or the way in which a beetle navigates, is likely to get a joy in life which no amount of success in the pursuit of power can give. ”

Science isn't a belief. It's the GPS in the fog, the seatbelt on the rollercoaster, the friend who tells you your fly is down. Undermining it isn’t edgyβ€”it’s like replacing your smoke alarm with a lava lamp. πŸ§ͺπŸ”¬πŸ”₯ We need brains, not vibes. #SaveScience

Where is America’s drug supply made?

There’s usually no single country where a drug is manufactured. Plants in different parts of the world handle different parts of the process. Factories make chemicals and other raw materials. Drug companies buy those materials and use them to make the active ingredient of a medication. Then the active ingredient needs to be formulated into a pill or a liquid. In the final stage, the drug is packaged into boxes, vials or pens.

Definitely a "everything is chemicals" moment here
