Screencap of an article that reads "Why has the political gender gap widened so much among young people? A variety of possible explanations have been put forward. For example, some young men have rejected what they see as anti-male rhetoric in progressive spaces, where masculinity is often labeled as β€œtoxic.” Another factor may be college enrollment. Young women are now more likely to attend college than young men, and many colleges tend to be left-leaning environments. "

this is just bad journalism. you can't just say "where masculinity is often labeled as toxic" without proof of that. it's just a lie! also where are these left-leaning colleges you're talking about, because as far as I've seen colleges have been happy to bend over backwards for republicans

I’ve been thinking about the things in our lives that console us from the violence that surrounds us. For example: books. Books are like hinotama* you can hold: they are mysterious, made of light; they illuminate life; they give life. I’m saying this because I’ve also been thinking about, and I cannot stop thinking about, especially tonight, as we celebrate books, about the fact that there are no libraries left in Gaza. All the public libraries in Gaza have been destroyed. All the university libraries have been destroyed. The Great Omari Mosque, which housed one of Palestine’s largest collections of rare books, has been destroyed. The Edward Said Library, which was the first English-language library in Gaza, established by the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Mosab Abu Toha, was destroyed. Bookstores, archives, museums, and, of course, people’s homes, and all of their libraries have been destroyed. This is libricide: the systematic destruction of books, and, through that, the destruction of history and memory. That is what my book is about: the attempted erasure of a people, and the legacies of that attempt. I say attempt, because it’s also about the refusal to be erased. That is why I write. Thank you for this recognition.

My book The Afterlife Is Letting Go (City Lights) won the Colorado Book Award for Creative Nonfiction, thanks to CO Humanities. Here's the speech I gave at the ceremony. I talked about how on a night of celebrating books we should be thinking about the fact that there are no libraries left in Gaza.

White people are so disconnected from true community and culture that they have no idea how to be normal. Then they think we have it served to us on a platter, not that we had to work to claw our own community back from the brink of erasure

Israeli Military Attacks Handala in International Waters, Abducts 21
Unarmed Civilians
The Freedom Flotilla Coalition confirms that its civilian
vessel Handala, en route to break Israel's illegal, genocidal blockade on Palestinians in Gaza, has been violently intercepted by the Israeli military in international waters about forty nautical miles from Gaza. At 11:43 Palestine time the Occupation cut the
cameras on board Handala and we have lost all
communication with our ship. The unarmed boat was carrying life-saving supplies when it was boarded by Israeli forces, its passengers abducted, and its cargo seized. The interception occurred in international waters outside Palestinian territorial waters off Gaza, in violation of international maritime law.
Handala carried a shipment of critical humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza, including baby formula, diapers, food, and medicine. All cargo was non-military, civilian, and intended for direct distribution to a population facing deliberate starvation and medical collapse under Israel's illegal blockade.

Israeli officials have ignored the International Court of Justice's binding orders that require the facilitation of humanitarian access to Gaza. The continued attacks on

"Israel has no legal authority to detain international civilians aboard the Handala", said Ann Wright a

The whole world has been protesting like this for nearly 2 years and nobody listens. We have to learn from it this time, because we didn't in 2003. I love that people protest, I do it myself, but we have to understand that the people in power DO NOT care one bit about peaceful protests.
