A drawing of my looking at a small storage unit crammed full all the way to the door. It reads, “And so I spent a week and a half moving out of my apartment. There was an incredible deal on a storage unit that was 5 x 5 which I couldn’t pass it up. Got rid of the furniture and slowly packed everything in like Tetris.”

Today in Ancud I finally managed to get ahold of lovely lovely delicious peanut butter. But the journal comic isn't to Ancud yet!

A drawing of me, unshaven, wearing a bomber jacket, sunglasses, and fedora. It reads, "AND JUST TO BE CLEAR. IF YOU THINK I'M SOME WORLD SAVVY TRAVELER, I'M NOT. I'M EXCITED ABOUT THE TRIP, BUT I'M ALSO ABSOLUTELY TERRIFIED. AND WITH GOOD REASON. I'VE NEVER BEEN TO SOUTH AMERICA AND MY SPANISH CAN BE DESRIBED AS PALTRY AT BEST."

Illustration showing one book creator saying "I just found out my book won an award!" and the other saying "Wow, congrats!" but also wistfully thinking "I wish my books won awards. Or even just nominated. Sometimes I feel so invisible. Argh, why can't I just be happy for my friend? I'm a terrible person."

For fellow book creators who sometimes experience peer envy (hand waving here!) - here are some tips compiled from a poll I did a few years ago:

I adore Dire Days and I’m happy to report that Nefarious Nights meets every expectation and is just as fun as Dire Days, I was giggling throughout. It’s the perfect sequel.

I don’t want to be governed by vibes. I want to be governed by data, and I want the methods which generated that data to be peer-reviewed so aggressively that bias is recognized and mitigated.

I want to do nothing *but* trust experts, so I can spend my time as an expert in my own tiny field.

yeah, I've been pondering this for the last day. He doesn't care about anything except power, praise, & money for himself. So what's the angle? Is it simply more distraction for Epstein? Or since he once suggested the US should take over Gaza, maybe this is dissing Isreal so we can move in? 100% SUS

Actor Mandy Patinkin’s plea for Jews to consider how what Netanyahu’s Israeli government is doing to Gaza is not just harming Palestinians and killing kids — but also endangering Jews across the globe.

A single-panel comic drawnin pen with inkwash shading; the top caption says "I've had such a long-standing habit of guilting myself during periods of art-block, I guilt myself even in periods of productivity."
In the panel, two visually identical versions of me, a white lady with wavy dark hair and glasses, are sitting on my couch; the one on the left is folding laundry from a hamper next to her, and the one on the right is lounging on the chaise end with an open can of beer.
The me folding laundry has speech bubbles saying "Hmmm. I haven't made enough art lately. I should work harder. I'm gonna fall out of practice." Lounging me replies, "Shut up. You literally drew a comic every day this week, and the 24 weeks before that." Laundry me responds, "Ya, I guess you're right. But what abou-" and is interrupted by Lounging me, who says "No. Shut up."
Beneath the comic is my signature (Kat Baumann), today's date (7-5-2025) and the time I spent drawing this (50 minutes)

While trying to not check the news constantly about the budget voting, I watched a huge rainstorm move in, and then I made some earl grey tea and watched it by the screen doors with the cool air and petrichor wafting in. Then I started two loaves and bread and made two dozen snickerdoodles.

I totally agree. And I’m also curious about the phrasing that it needs age of verification if more than 1/3 of the content is porny. I hate AI, but I’m wondering if companies will, for every post, have the AI create two posts that aren’t porny at all. But I might not be reading it correctly.

I’ve read people here being extremely frustrated about finding reference photos because everything is AI junk. I’ve 100% believed them, but I haven’t had to find a reference photo for a while. And yeah, what used to be an incredible tool, the image search, is becoming useless. I wish AI would die.

A four panel comic for "make a terrible comic day." A dominatrix tells her slave to jump, and he replies, "How high?" She tells him to jump "higher than this stepstool." He says, "oh, that's easy," and as he winks at her he says, "Since stools can't jump." In the last panel she is furiously whipping him as he gleefully says, "Worth it!"
