Re-reading 'The Hunter' for the first time in years and I'm struck by how emotional and borderline out-of-control Parker is... it's a real shift from the subsequent books in the series, when he's more like the T-800 with a taste for robbery.

Thanks! I wrestled with it. Tolstoy's original is so clean and straightforward, so it initially seems easy to parody or bend... but pacing with my coffee, I realized, damn, I'm just gonna have to acknowledge that I'm gonna mess this up a bit.
