Adulthood is being conscripted into the Forever War on Laundry and then serving on the front line in perpetuity
10.02.2025 18:19 β π 21 π 1 π¬ 4 π 0Whilst I often think the same my mum (yes really π€£) often reminds me that standards, for everything, are so much higher now. So the work has increased compared to old timesβ¦ despite the tools π’
I do actually think sheβs right
How many loads of washing can you do before you physically die of exhaustion induced by laundry?
09.02.2025 20:17 β π 15 π 0 π¬ 8 π 3I actually canβt rmemeber, itβs a blur, I donβt think I did. I think I wanted the fresh air and to decompress from the exam
03.02.2025 08:49 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Yeah, agreed, I could think of many similar issues re financial compulsion of disadvantaged people. The whole of societal make up quite frankly.
Itβs a difficult topic when itβs paired with something so emotive. Goodnight R, nice to chat
As you can imagine this is a difficult topic - views on pregnancy after near life threatening experiences and baby loss arenβt likely to match up with the glittery miracle view.
Gonna get some sleep. Good luck with it.
Surrogacy will always be an emotive subject.
You can examine whatβs happening all you like and Iβm sure as always youβll do a great job of it. I admire all your work even if I donβt agree.
I just think unless you have been in a womanβs position you may not be able to get the full picture
Thatβs just my point, a man may call it a biological miracle and seeing it as such. A woman may see it as a huge inconvenience because they have to go through it and take all the risks.
The imbalance in my and your view of pregnancy is just proving my point. It didnβt almost kill you.
These are womenβs bodies, and if women are choosing to do something
And other women are choosing to do something else
And they chose by agreement
β¦ then I guess thatβs up to them
And for men to judge it & examine issues they may never fully understand is tricky, not impossible, but tricky
In the states that may be the case, in the UK there is no payment by law
Certainly it is a trend of the rich, but I wonder if other women had the means would they chose the same? Weβll never know
You could say the same about a cleaner, a nanny, etc these are all work being outsourced
Interestingβ¦Why is it horrifying?
Do you know their reasons? Have you carried a child?
I suspect unless one has felt the desperation of keeping oneβs life together, like I did that day
Or like many of these women do, wrestling over how to keep their seemingly opposing dreams afloat
It may well be difficult to understand
But this comes from a woman who walked into her FRCS the day after she was told she was at risk of torrential haemorrhage and needed urgent surgery, then walked to the hospital and admitted herself
So whilst Iβve not used a surrogate, I can see how far this issues pushes one to the very edge.
I donβt know their reasons. I can think of all the reasons I would use one and theyβre mostly to do with how difficult society makes it to be βan individualβ with aspirations, dreams, a job, judged re appearance, poor maternity care and womenβs health etc etc and be pregnant/a mother
It is complex
I think whatβs as unsettling as the surrogacy trade (US not UK - no money here) is why women feel the need to use a surrogate if indeed itβs not due to medical need
I.e whatβs making it so difficult for women
I.e I.e why is society messing even this up for women too?
This looks good, I shall add to my list!
02.02.2025 18:40 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Right so now Iβve read the Elon Musk Biographyβ¦

This book was absolutely fascinating. Honestly every single page was a page turner. What an insane life.
I couldnβt NOT put this down
Iβm one of these people who reads news and biographies on people I ideologically disagree with. I know this is unusual these days, indeed Iβve been attacked for it before
But I find great value in understanding how and why other people think as they do
Well well wellβ¦
