B’ambasadóir é Manchán dár nglúin féin agus duine a bhí lárnach san athbheochán a tharla ar na mallaibh sa chultúr agus sa Ghaeilge. Sheas sé i lár an aonaigh agus thiocfadh a rá nár chuir sé é féin ansin ach gur chuir an pobal ann é.

Ina bhealach séimh féin, chuir sé i gcuimhne dúinn fán ról atá ag an teanga maidir le tuiscint níos doimhne a fháil ar an cheantar thart orainn agus orainn féin.

Mairfidh a oidhreacht i meon fiosrach spreagúil na nGael agus iontu siúd a théann sa tóir ar shaol níos doimhne agus fíoraithe.

Suaimhneas síoraí ar a anam Gaelach. 💚

Perhaps unwillingly, he was the foremost cultural ambassador for our generation and instrumental in the resurgence of Irish language and culture.

He gently reminded us of the role the language has in understanding our surroundings, and knowing ourselves.

His legacy will live on in the curious minds of the Irish and beyond, in those who seek a deeper and more fulfilling life.

A good case study for sociolinguistic tyypology à la Trudgill!
Do you think that litteracy could have also contributed at some extent to this process of complexification?

If some people don't get it: This representation of the Evangelist Marc is explained by the proximity between the name and the word for 'horse' in Old Breton marh, march 🐴

🇪🇪 🇫🇷 Many thank to Dr. Tanguy Solliec for visiting us in Tallinn and giving a very interesting talk and to the French-Estonian Parrot Mobility Program which made this possible. Our project "Algorithmic Complexity in Comparative Gallo-Romance & Finnic Dialectology" has made an important step! 👍

Cornish clung on as living language beyond Dolly Pentreath, says writer Author of new book suggests Kernewek continued to be spoken in the 19th century, albeit in ‘tiny numbers’

"Kensa Broadhurst, of the Institute of Cornish Studies at the University of Exeter, has written a book in which she argues that the language clung on through the 19th century, spoken by some working-class Cornish people as well as academics and others who saw value in preserving it."

This cute little chapel in Langon, Brittany is actually a repurposed Roman bathhouse thought to date to the 4th century. Inside it can be found an ancient fresco of Venus emerging from the waves (although I didn't get to see that as it was locked on the date I visited...). #RomanSiteSaturday.

A detailed map of the Mediterranean basin rotated 90 degrees clockwise immediately disrupts the sense of a familiar landscape and makes the sea and surrounding coatslines of Greece, Italy and North Africa seems like maps from a fantasy novel or mysterious fictional realm.

Non, il a eu un article qui proposait des versions bretonnes pour des noms de lieu en Hte-Bretagne qui a lancé la forme.
On peut entendre Lodaog en breton parlé dans région de Pontivy si je ne m’abuse.
Références à venir…
