That's just not going to work out. I like being alive.

Agree, though I also think the bulldozing the Rose Garden business is sheer petty spite.

05.08.2025 10:54 β π 7 π 2 π¬ 1 π 0It's really important to understand that if an elected official invites you to consider a country's finances as somehow analogous to household finances (a la Thatcher), they are *lying* to you and you should treat with scepticism *everything else* that ever comes out of their mouth.

04.08.2025 13:30 β π 5 π 2 π¬ 0 π 0It's the implications for dementia that I find particularly troubling, especially given that we knew that was a real risk from really very early on in the pandemic. It's a bleak world.

People with smarts are the last thing the U.K. needs.

It also completely ignores that the circumstances which necessitate people seeking asylum change, so someone may come to the UK to study and then require asylum later. Gaining an education in certain circumstances can actually lead to people needing to seek asylum.

We could be investing in communities to support everyone, instead we have a government wasting millions on performative cruelty. #r4today

Remember: Almost all of us are the descendants of immigrants who fled persecution, or were brought to America under duress, or sought better lives for themselves and their descendants.
Politicians who stoke fear and hatred over immigration want you to forget this.
Do not.
When you know better, you're supposed to do better.
We know now that airborne transmission is a bigger thing that we thought: we should be cleaning our inside air like we clean our water.
I keep thinking of this report from way back in 2010. The rot runs deep there. They've had a series of appalling Home Secretary's (continuously from Blunkett on at least) - but they also attract the kind of people who should never hold power over others.

There's something in the water in those departments. I'm not saying it makes *no* difference who's in power, but it's always just different flavours of shit.
03.08.2025 11:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Thing is the quality of Home Office decisions is appalling - which is why so many of their decisions are overturned on appeal. I doubt Cooper wants to improve the quality of decisions - she'll just want to refoul people faster.
They should let people work - and stop trying to appease fascists.
Leash your fucking large dogs you fucking idiots. A neighbor leaves their pit bull dog without a leash. No one in the street can locate the said neighbor and the dog doesn't have a tag. 30 minutes later, we hear screams. The pit bull attacks & bites a much smaller dog and the poor thing's mom is...

Have played around a bit with DuckDuckGo and it may be time to give them another look.
UK is very much following Italy, both with how it is designating countries as "safe" and the externalisation of processing and returns to deny people asylum. Simple reality is, just saying somewhere is safe to return people to doesn't actually make it safe. #r4today

Today's screenwriting work has involved filling out tax forms, so I think I'm going to hit things a bit now to destress.
