Jesse Jackson was an early and ardent supporter of gay rights. In fact, on July 17, 1984 at the DNC in San Fransisco, the first speech EVER at a national political convention calling for gay rights was delivered by none other than Rev. Jackson himself.

One final thing: 1945 was when we put ethnonationalism on trial and found it guilty. Rubio wanting to go back, is an invitation for nations to engage in ethnonationalist projects. What the Nazis did was not an abrogation of western civilization but a part of it.

For Rubio to ignore the eventual destruction imperialism brings even to the home populations of those empires reflects an inability to see that at home. What it also reflects is a fascistic desperation to return to the "good old days of western civilization", against China and the Global South.

In reality the Americans and the Soviets two nations trying but not really trying to stay out of the war were forced to get involved when attacked and defeated the Axis. But instead of keeping status quo ante, the result was the rise of anticolonialism and the slow end of Europe's empires.

20 years later, Germany, Italy and Japan get together to carve out their own Empires at the expense of the old European Empires. WW2 was the supreme crisis of Western Atlantic Imperialism, as Germany conquered most of the mother countries while Italy and Japan attacked their colonies.

The net result, a war in Europe that devastated and collapsed multiple empires, and a frustrated, Italy, Japan, and US with UK and France driving much of the terms to end the war, without addressing any of the problems which started the war in the first place.
