we live in an extraordinarily wealthier society than our parents and grandparents. our problem is that we have not invested enough of that wealth in social goods, but i don’t think anyone actually wants to return to a time when even a β€œgood” factory job was backbreaking labor

cool how Project 2025 went viral during the election, we were told Trump disavowed it and wouldn't do it, he got elected and started implementing it immediately and now we're being told "well this is what people voted for"

they very explicitly did not

Kind of funny how on the *other* platforms I almost never see these sorts of posts yet in my fairly short time here, they are all over.

Looking forward to see what sorts of amazing things non-predatory social media can build

Thanks for reminding me that I will be able to finally collect scionwood from my Toka Plum (which was my first successful graft 2 years ago!) soon!

Don’t be glum about the long, cold winter. Look around: the trees are busy, not sleeping. When the temperature permits, cells in this bud are dividing, maturing into flowers, leaves, stems. The cambium, maker of all the trees, is preparing for its spring festivities. Be like a tree: keep growing.

The L.A. Fires Have Started a Misinformation Storm Emotions surrounding the ongoing fires in Los Angeles have kept conspiracy theories flowing.

In this part of the film, the humans have began arguing whether their peril is caused by humans, or humans

To an asshole, all virtue is "virtue signaling."

Ah ok, the wording just threw me off. The truth is that these are big, complex systems with many inputs... though the changing climate, and humans are the biggest common threads.

Trends and drivers of Arctic-boreal fire intensity between 2003 and 2022 Climate change has disproportional effects on Arctic-boreal ecosystems, as the increase of air temperatures in these northern regions is several times…

also, if it were just people, you wouldn't see huge increases in wildfires in Arctic / Borreal biomes which have some of the lowest densities of humans. www.sciencedirect.com/science/arti...

The prediction (which has continues to be proven true, repeatedly) was that there would be more naturally-caused forest fires. The statistics are clear on this. The fact that humans are also setting fires intentionally is just a horrible icing on a bitter cake.

Today (Interestingly NOT the day of the solstice) is the day of the earliest sunset in Green Bay, WI: 4:12 PM. The solstice, aka the shortest day of the year, is actually the midpoint between the earliest sunset (today) and the latest sunrise (Jan 2)

Genuinely makes me sad that history is filled with so many incredible fascinating stories yet the most popular history show on Netflix is some dipshit looking at old civilisations and just going "looks like they used secret technology or magic to build this"

Dreamt of swimming in wild rivers warm days in the woods last night. A strong sense of longing for days and nights spent in the wild gives purpose for the preparations of winter.

Our new study shows that SARS-CoV-2 spike protein accumulates & persists in the body for years after infection, especially in the skull-meninges-brain axis, potentially driving long COVID. mRNA vaccines help but cannot stop itπŸ”¬πŸ§ πŸ¦ πŸ§΅Your weekend readπŸ‘‡

The Consumer Financial Protection Bureau is one of our most efficient agencies. Costs less than $1B a year & has fought to return over $20B directly to Americans.

But I guess it makes sense that a billionaire wants to eliminate one of the agencies that fights for working people. πŸ€·πŸΎβ€β™‚οΈ
