The Rise of Silicon Valley’s Techno-Religion

I've come to believe that technology journalists are creating the phenomenon...writing about these small enclaves as if they were a large and thriving community rather than just a small freak show of philosophy-sotted sophists.

Spoke last night to a patisserie owner with a small, but thriving, shop who is now facing huge cost hikes due to tariffs.
The new tax on Belgian chocolate alone threatens the business and has forced retail price hikes.

This, by Mike Isaac in the @nytimes.com is so good. And so much like the dawn of the biotech era in Silicon Valley when companies were formed around...nothing. One, California Biotech, was literally just a generic name made up by a VC.

I try not to buy anything made of plastic or packaged in plastic. Impossible to go to zero, of course but I feel better about trying. I even changed my peanut butter brand. (Thanks, Laura Scudders, for using glass jars.)

Woman Injured by Falling Patio Furniture at Tesla Diner in Hollywood A lunch outing turned into a terrifying ordeal for a family at the Tesla Diner in Los Angeles -- and now, they’re planning legal action.

This is an unusual story. Normally you'd expect the traumatic head injury to have happened *before* someone decided to eat at the Tesla Diner. www.tmz.com/2025/07/28/w...

You May Be Asking Yourself How Did Dan Bongino Get Here A review of how Dan Bongino went from Secret Service agent to conspiratorial podcaster to the FBI deputy director who needed a personal day.

Dan Bongino decided to apply to med school while watching an episode of Grey's Anatomy. (His wife thought it was a bad idea). It went about as well as his Epstein promises. Now, he runs ops at the FBI with, well, uncertain emotion. I ponder Being Bongino. www.rollingstone.com/politics/pol...

My Democratic colleagues and I just left the state of Texas to break quorum and stop Trump’s redistricting power grab.

Trump is trying to rig the midterm elections right before our eyes. But first he’ll have to come through us.

It’s time to fight back.

DuckDuckGo has introduced a new feature allowing users to filter out AI-generated images from search results, addressing growing concerns over synthetic content overwhelming authentic visuals online.
The filter can be activated through a dropdown in the Images tab, search settings, or by using a dedicated AI-free domain: noai.duckduckgo.com. The system relies on curated blocklists, including uBlockOrigin’s Huge AI Blocklist, to detect and suppress AI-generated imagery.
While not perfect, it significantly reduces synthetic content visibility. This move sets DuckDuckGo apart from competitors like Google and Bing by giving users direct control over their exposure to AI-generated material.

Trump’s mental decline is undeniable — so what now? hemselves, that there is a problem, just as Biden’s supporters did for him.    Donald Trump is showing all the signs of suffering from dementia. If this were a neighbor, a parent, or a family frien…

"In older people, confabulation is one of the clearest early signs of dementia...Once you have seen that Donald Trump is confabulating, it cannot be unseen — and all sorts of other mildly disturbing incidents suddenly fall into place."
