I looked into insurance for Kiernan when he was a puppy. All the older doxies had preexisting conditions but I thought a puppy would be reasonable. Nope. They seem to assume every dachshund will need back surgery and extensive physical therapy. The price was astronomical.

Seems to be an intelligent and rational individual. 🙄🙄🙄

I’m currently in Phoenix and it has yet to get below 49. Highs have been in the 60s to mid 70s. Very light jacket weather. I’m often too warm in ling sleeves by afternoon.

In ABQ it’s regularly below freezing overnight. High desert, altitude varies across town from ~4000-5000 feet. Never super cold for me as I grew up near Lake Michigan but colder than outsiders expect. Snows 2-4 times a year with actual accumulation.

Please don’t forget today is World AIDS Day. At a time our government wants it to be ignored it’s even more important to remember. I knew people who died and I know someone I grew up with who is living with it now and has been for a long time. Treatment is important both here and in other countries.

As someone who was almost certainly impacted by this, great to hear that it’s stopped. But does me no good after I was already priced out of my apartment by GreyStar. And likely paid over market rate rent before that. A settlement means no chance to recover that money like a verdict might.

Mind you, when I started driving in The Middle of Nowhere, IN, 1990, everyone left their cars unlocked. Mine wasn’t the only family who left the keys in the ignition in case someone needed to drive a different one. It wasn’t lime we needed the attached house key for anything. 😉

At least for one winter, these were common posts in ABQ as well. The APD had to go on the news more than once to tell people to actually lock their vehicles.

I have, of course, lost friends and loved ones since. In my twenties, I learned a cousin in northern California had died from an unknown cancer in the late ‘70s. The family assumes she was one of the early victims. As I do every year, praying for a cure and a vaccine, both affordable to all.

You see, Ryan White was about my age and lived two hours away. His situation was debated in the local news and in the classroom. My classmates and I learned of the epidemic, the fear and the stigma earlier than most.

When I attend World Aids Day events now that I no longer live in northern Indiana I have a story that surprises everyone. When I’m asked at what age/time I was first aware of the epidemic, I confidently answer. I was 12, in 1986. No, not a family member’s diagnosis.

We usually go somewhere fun on Monday and share lunch or breakfast out. This trip was just a but more impromptu than most.

Thanks! My weekends are Sunday and Monday so we have a lazy day of laundry and simple errands planned. Later we will take a load of recycling to the drop off spot at the park and visit the doggy section for sniffs.

Cronch, cronch, cronch! He watched while I inhaled my donut, I might stare after all. Then he ate his while I drank my coffee.

The vet squeezed K in for a nail trim this morning. (It takes 2 humans & with his IVDD I don’t trust walk-in places.) We went down the road for breakfast. He was hoping for McDonald’s hash browns but seemed happy enough with his treat from Parlor.

I have to think this was on purpose.
