I've never fully understood the threat they seem to present. Is it creating patterns on you with their dirty wheels on you if you're wearing light clothing?

Tremendously good advice here.

Yet, for all meandering moments of s2, I still rate the daft Nadine storyline and Ed and Norma's troubled love. I'm so glad this all ran into The Return 25 years later. And while I've my thoughts on Windom Earle's inconsistencies, he definitely brings the show back together for the final stretch.

Killing off a scumbag like Hank or Leo to gruesomely clean up Twin Peaks would have added dark drama. Or, not just for shock value, imagine killing off one of the many lawful characters like innocent Andy or even Cooper's new bestie partner Sheriff Truman! A v different show but the stakes!

While Earle has a few ominous moments, his tonal capering is... a choice. That said, his first move of killing of a nameless drifter to announce his arrival feels like a writing error. By this point, killing one of the many deadbeat, dead weight men in the town could have set off real shock waves.

Into the Windom Earle era of my weekly #TwinPeaks rewatch. Of all the show's foibles, I really feel he was the biggest missed opportunity. A dark reflection of Cooper poisoning the town Cooper loves feels like a far more personal antagonist to contrast the whodunit of Laura Palmer's murder.

Every rich person is going to tell *you* how great AI teaching is while sending *their* kids to the kind of schooling the Ancient Greeks would recognize. I just wish everyone would think about why that is.

In other news, I've cut my nose. Again.

If you took a billionaire's money away, they would just earn it back again. Cream rises to the top.

I'm so confident about this, I think we should prove it by taking all the billionaires' money away.

"Executives pitched the idea of actually incorporating AI into one of the characters as a marketing strategy. The AI-generated character would be a sidekick, but the idea was ultimately scrapped because executives internally were told that the company couldn’t risk the bad publicity.”

(Also: movies cost that much because of crazy above-the-line costs and bonkers decisions like “let’s junk this almost-completed film and reshoot a new script with a new director”.)

The Renewable Illusion: Why Fossil Fuels Keep Winning Global renewables hit records in 2024, but fossil fuel use still rises. Here’s why solar’s surge isn’t enough—and what the latest energy data really shows.

1. This is something I've been saying for 25 years, but it's hard to get many people to listen. What counts is not the new energy sources you add, but the old ones you retire. Unfortunately it's politically easier to build renewables than to shutter fossil fuels.🧵
