Classical petrologist. Steelmaking, Casting, refractories in liquid process metallurgy, microscopy, microanalytics. I think the terfs are right.

aha, thank you! that makes sense. ohweh, then a lot more attention has to be paid to such storage sites over time.

One out of some 70 bunkers on site does not sound like much.
Quite a while ago, there was a strike further north, on such an arsenal complex (i think it started with T...), where a massive amount of damage appeared, dozens of bunkers gone. Why there that volume and here not?

Why so? They could overthrow their government and get a new one. What would stop this? There is little to nothing in common btw the situations in Libya and Iran.

I'm not sure it would turn it into more of a catastrophe than it already is. It would not help, but i think it is of diminishing relevance. The fight is btw the Iranian regime and the Iranian people, whether the US also attacks or not.

nah, you can have representative and accountable government across 11 timezones. I dont believe that size makes it impossible. Star Trek's Federation wasnt imagined as dictatorship! It's Russia's russianness thats a problem. But that can change.

they should be the E6 really. No reason not to include Spain except they are governed by the socialists.

so he negotiated trade deals with various countries and trade blocs, and now he's unilaterally putting 10% extra on those, without consultations, just so?

You dont need to rely on journalists. On Ukraine, ask Ukrainians, On Iran, ask Iranians. On Syria, there were endless numbers of Syrians telling anyone who wanted to hear that Assad was the big butcher. The tankie left simply did not want to hear.

that is indeed the future. For a real alliance you need a likeness of political views that is not dependent on changing personnel or electoral flip flops every few years. Between the major European countries, this structural likemindedness is less and less there.

You can be sure that the techbros and the segment below them will try again to force society, especially pensioners, to pay for their losses. Pensioners are both the last large reservoir of non oligarchic capital, and a large and growing voter block. They wont go left when they get dispossessed.

Both in the GFC and in the Eurocrisis, the bubbles didnt burst 'cleanly' as the dotcom bubble still did. In both, an entire segment of the upper bourgeoisie would have faced significant losses of capital, refused to take it, and got the gov'ts to socialize losses. This threatens to happen again.

18.02.2026 14:45 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 0    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

i am afraid this is too simplistic, since the massive amounts of debt that are being used up in the bubble, have an effect on the entire economy and on everyone, little people too. It matters much how the bubble bursts. Think of the GFC, which initiated the processes that led to the rise of Trump.

For China it makes sense. UA and Russia are the perfect customers. One side pays China for means to destroy what the other side has, the other side pays China to rebuild it, and vice versa. Eternal money.

I just dont think blame falls only on one side here. France has to understand that it cant continue with the old approach of using European countries to support French politics. And Germany must eventually grow up and end its reflexive US submissivity. They're both wrong.

18.02.2026 13:38 โ€” ๐Ÿ‘ 1    ๐Ÿ” 0    ๐Ÿ’ฌ 1    ๐Ÿ“Œ 0

So this will likely mean that the D-F common tank development is also dead, as per Macron. So we have Europe's weakness in a nutshell - even under threat they cant stop trying to take advantage of each other.

EADS wouldnt have to be created from scratch. And its not bad to have a third (!) supplier. we are not that small as a continent that there is only room for one company. This was a market domination play by Dassault, they tried, fine, but it has consequences. Its more important what D does next

Still, in a certain way that person is right. In the end, if nothing is done, then adaptation is all that remains, however bad it becomes. Kyiv style.

And the heating wont end there, and 3 C globally is a lot more in Europe specifically, except the parts that will suffer under AMOC loss which is anyhow indefensible against.

Dont you observe NATO wilting before your eyes?
We dont know what will happen to the US. They may get sane again but for the moment it doesnt look like it. You dont want into the current NATO. You want in the NATO that was, but its gone.

This needs attention. The ambassador can be expelled. But what if the US acts out on such a threat? They have already, back then over Nordstream against German municipalities, and against the ICC. How will we ensure that our laws rule here, not US edicts?
