I have a bad feeling about how that chart (and indeed all the others) will look this time next year, with El NiΓ±o apparently looking increasingly probable for 2026.

My daily sea ice graphics should now be switched from 2025 to 2026. Let me know if you find any typos/issues! βœ…

I am starting to update my annual mean metrics for sea ice too.

Line graph time series of daily Arctic temperatures north of 80Β°N latitude for every year from 1958 through 2025. There is a long-term warming trend for every day of the year and a clear seasonal cycle. 2025 is currently much warmer than average.

Things are really not good around the North Pole. Anomalous warmth continues, alongside record low #Arctic sea ice conditions. Nearly every time I check the data, there seems to be yet another new record this fall.

Get ready to rock and roll!
A Sudden Stratospheric Warming is on the way. In about two weeks, temperatures 12 miles up over Canada and Greenland are forecast to spike by 50Β°F or more. That’s a shockwave in the stratosphere β€” a rapid disruption of the polar vortex high above the Arctic… 1/

It's OK, because according to every American I debated / discussed it with on Slashdot in the early 2000s (after the 2020 election demonstrated the US was a failed democracy), all the things that are happening are impossible, because the US has a Constitution.

Lawsuit Alleges Inhumane Conditions at Broadview ICE Facility Federal authorities moved two plaintiffs in the suit out of state; a judge has ordered they be returned Monday.

This account also feels in line with some of what other people that have been in Broadview have shared.

It's a really callous, ugly way to express a larger truth. The same thing applies to Florida. At what point in the current sea level rise curve do we throw in the towel, stop throwing good money after bad, and retreat? 1m? 5m? 10?

Line graph time series of global ocean heat content for the 0-2000 m layer for 3 year averages, yearly averages, and five years averages from the late 1950s to 2025. There is a long-term warming trend. The baseline is 1955-2006 for the zero reference to calculate the anomalies.

Meanwhile, back in reality, global ocean heat content just updated through June 2025 and set a new record high. Time to wake up!

NOAA cancels procurement of new phased array weather radar test article Further stalls important weather research program

Important weather science news tonight: NOAA has canceled procurement of the next phased array weather radar R&D instrument. Along with the obvious blow to PAR weather research, it is consistent with other moves by admin to push forward quickly with NOAA cuts. More: https://tinyurl.com/my8hx8j6

Seems to me that every flash flooding incident in the last 30 years that was reported on TV illustrated the story with a clip of cars driving / people wading through flood waters, and seemingly getting away with it. 2 mins later, the anchors will be solemnly reading out warnings about not doing it.
