This sentiment is deeply harmful to the theatre education, and I would argue it comes from a place of entitlement and perhaps privilege. I love the fact public universities have open auditions (mostly) it's always been a charm of the system. The door should be open to all who wish to do the work.

I actually had to buy a townhome to prevent myself from being priced out of the rental market in my town. My rent with HOA and insurance is still cheaper than the rent hike I was facing. Plus after my old rental went back on the market it is now 400 more a month than my house.
