Listening to Bruce Harrell on the campaign trail, you'd never know that traffic fatalities in Seattle have actually increased during his term as whole and that last year was the deadliest year on city roads in decades.

i have a handful of theories as to why, but none of them fully explain why we've managed to get all on the same page and fully radicalized on how expensive housing has become but the closest anyone gets to noticing transportation is also expensive is "gas prices are too damn high"

It is almost like Hanoi, a city with over 8 million residents, needs a true city spanning metro system. Not two disconnected metro lines.

Did my grad school thesis on the Lloyd District in Portland in 2013, the gaping non-place in the middle of miles of walkable/bikeable places that make up PDX.

Definitely went with the "it's not rocket science" approach re: the urbanism. Only "flair" was embracing Portland's park block precedent...

Behind closed doors, real estate leaders tell governor, mayor how to revive Portland housing construction During a 2 1/2-hour meeting, real estate leaders aired concerns about high taxes and downtown safety and suggested extending downtown tax breaks.

Private developers get ANOTHER private audience with Kotek and Wilson to talk about how they would like to make money.

No mention of social housing in this article of course.

Subscribers asked for it, here are some of my thoughts on an article about the CRH system by an 85 year old Chinese economic geographer, 陆倧道. I'll be blunt, people who cite 陆倧道's article at face value against the concept of HSR don't know anything about transport planning.

transit is climate action, transit is disability justice, transit is economic development, transit is family-wage jobs, transit unlocks access to education and health care and every other social service the state provides. what good's a clinic if the folks who need it the most can't reach it?

In the bottom photo, the diagonal stripe of the train's livery is visible. This diagonal stripe was present only on Type 2 LRVs, and not Type 1s, likely to highlight/accommodate for their lower access doors. This diagonal stripe was a key inspiration for the dress design, and can be seen in both the collar, and the small "mini-dress" that sits atop the main dress.

Trimet's light rail system, called MAX, is short for Metropolitan Area eXpress. MAE sounds lame.

Remember to do your part in reducing automotive emissions and congestion by taking transit when you can!

The collar was my favorite part of this outfit. I used a new technique to create the stripes.

trimet doesn’t turn away people traveling to cooling shelters during a heatwave because public transit has an obligation to serve all users that isn’t shared by any other part of our transportation system. important to remember when you hear about the existential threats facing transit today

Portland is facing dire transit service cuts and we're being told our 30 year old indoor sports arena is out of date and taxpayers must fix it.

Transit uses obsolete infrastructure every day. It would be nice to update the rail system so it can run at normal speeds on hot days, for example.
