Periodic reminder that the United States has the most incarcerated people in the world on an absolute basis and is 5th by incarceration rate per inhabitant, being 1st by a mile among countries that could reasonably be considered 'developed'. Americans are the least free but think ONLY they are free.

There is no world in which it is normal for the president to publicly call upon his attorney general to hurry up and prosecute his political foes. It’s like the Watergate tapes but posted on social media. Let’s get a grip on what’s happening here.

Disney didn’t just incur a $3.8 billion loss overnight. If the boycott continues, it could escalate to over $20 billion. This is how you combat fascism.

When people say "if you have nothing to hide you have nothing to fear." the correct response is:

"I need privacy, not because my actions are questionable, but because your judgement and intentions are."

Protip from a 32 yo woman who has a STEM degree and almost all male-coded hobbies: If a man starts testing you about your interests, hobbies, or job, don’t engage him β€” just walk away. Those men are not worth a single ounce of effort and you aren’t required to justify yourself to anyone.

I wrote a #substack about the fragmented lives we lead. Recognizing it is hopefully the first step in finding something better. We deserve better.

The One I Don't Want to Write, Pt. 1 Losing a dog is never easy

In 2023, my dog was diagnosed with lymphoma. It was a difficult year, to say the least. I have written about it on Substack, in part for myself and in part to help anyone else who may be going through the difficulties of losing their best friend.

I still think the US is doing pretty well considering we, as a country, didn't start drinking water until 2012

O' Canada! A quick trip to Banff in March was the perfect way to end a cold, icy winter

I wrote a little Substack about our trip to Banff last month. Canada is so relaxing and everyone is so NICE. We could stand to learn a few things from them. #banff

Serious answer. I don't know anything about her family money or her spouse bc I don't care but I do know she wrote a book bc the headlines were stomach-churning. Book money can be big money.

Not to state the obvious, but none of them were sent to a terrorist prison in El Salvador. They all had lawyers, indictment by grand jury, a trial or a guilty plea where a judge ensured it was knowing & voluntary & access to an appeals process. In other words, all the hallmarks of due process.

It boggles the mind that we have people who are facing more than one mass shooting event in their lifetime. Any other developed country in the world would have fixed this problem. Our greed and backwards values have corrupted us.

Tiny bird with vibrant magenta-purple iridescent feathers perched on a thin twig. Its distinctive white crest contrasts with its dark plumage, and its thin black bill extends forward. The bird's wings show darker tones against the metallic body coloring, all captured against a soft green natural background.

Failing to acknowledge that we are in a moment of national crisis unrivaled in our history is not only denying reality it is inviting disaster. Failing to use every legal tool at our disposal to resist & preserve our freedoms is a betrayal of every past, current and future generation of Americans.

Can I just say it's a little grotesque when you refer to your living parents' money as your inheritance? They don't have to leave it to you. Also, maybe they want to spend it all!

The United States Government has no legal authority to snatch a person who is lawfully present in the United States off the street and remove him from the country without due process. The Government's contention otherwise, and its argument that the federal courts are powerless to intervene, are unconscionable.
