Growing up gay in a small town, I always knew I was different — sensitive, shy, nerdy, and made to feel less than by my peers. I grew up hearing stories of the AIDS crisis in the 1980s, terrified I’d end up like those men — scared, sick, and shunned. In med school, I read And the Band Played On. It showed me how queer communities fought to live openly and unapologetically — to love who we love, and demand dignity and healthcare. I wanted to build a more just world, so I went into public health. Working at CDC was my dream come true. But now, Vought, Trump, and RFKJ are gutting the systems that keep us safe — including the HIV division born from those darkest days. The so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” is a full-on assault on LGBTQ+ dignity, especially trans folks. This isn’t just an attack on public health — it’s an attack on our humanity and right to exist. No matter how hard the bullies try, public health fights for every person’s dignity, safety, and right to live fully. That’s why I joined altCDC. And I won't stop pushing for what I know is right. It’s time to channel our rage and the power of our ancestors — and rise up.

A household still has a budget and an income and resources to manage; all the moving parts are the same but the focus is different. A business will let every person in it die a terrible death if it makes the business profit. A household will spend it's last dollar to keep the people in it safe and healthy. A household will use money as a resource to add value to the lives of the people in the household. A business will use people as a resource to add monetary value to the business. We don't want a government run like a business, we want a country run like a household. Because we live here.

I've never seen "running government like a business is bad, actually" illustrated as plainly and clearly as this:

Two bright yellow and green mushrooms grow out of dark, reddish-brown soil and decaying wood. The mushrooms bend inwards towards the center of the photo, almost creating a bit of a circle, though their caps are about an inch and a half apart from each other. The stipes are a vivid yellow. The cap of the left mushroom is a deep emerald green, while the cap of the right mushroom is a greenish-yellow from the margin of the cap to halfway up, turning light green and then finally that same deep emerald green at the very top.

Two parrot mushroom friends grow together out of the ground near decaying Western Red Cedar wood. I really liked the way these two grew towards each other, almost creating a circle. Plus, the colors on the one on the right are so perfect! 🟡🟢 🍄📷 📸🎞 🌿🌱 🟢 🍄 🍄‍🟫 📷
