One of the dumbest mistakes North America ever made, and continues to make, is doing so relatively little with trains. Train networks are nation-building.

NEW: There’s a disaster unfolding in Alaska right now. And no major network is covering it.

The remnants of Typhoon Halong battered western Alaska overnight. Homes, with people in them, have literally been swept into the Bering Strait.

At least 20 are missing. No comment from any federal agency.

Dormant coal mine turns green electricity generator in world-first test A disused coal mine in Wollongong will be the first test site for a renewable energy company that lowers weights down old mine shafts to spin turbines and create electricity.

I love this concept.

Use solar energy to lift incredibly heavy weights during the day, then drive turbines via the weights dropping during peak times. Apart from maintenance and updating tech it’s essentially free power forever.

Be a damn sight better than cruise ships.
