My 💬 of ICE on #rikers. I recall running to speak with council members and the PA office in February. Soon after Nassau approved a group of officers to work with ICE. NYC DOC has always utilized their jails to hold a few NYC detainees from time to time. This is on another level.

Prisons fail to eliminate social issues—often making it worse. They amplify trauma & create a distrust that many struggle to overcome. My experience working in correctional, medical, & state institutions has shown me that involuntary commitment frequently turns into a form of solitary confinement.
