A hole in cobalt blue knit fabric. The hole is encircled by a few running stitches in light blue thread.
The unravelling top and bottom edges of the hole are held together with more blue thread that spans the hole a few times.
After darning the blue fabric has a rectangular white patch over the hole. The darning matches the texture of the original knit.
A tiny bit of swiss darning to fix a pair of fleecy sweatpants. 60% of the way through I realized that dark grey would have been a better choice than white. Oops.
This is part of my winter biking base layer collection, which I think will be back in action sooner rather than laterโฆ

A black turtleneck laid flat on a book, with the neck folded over once.
Flat-lay of a black turtleneck with the neck unfolded. There are 5 white arrows pointing at the elastic threads, which form rows that are roughly evenly-spaced across the bottom half of the turtleneck (which becomes the โinner layerโ when the neck is folded over).
Close up photo of the turtleneck, slightly stretched so the rows of black elastic are more visible.
A large blunt needle threaded with elastic thread is held between two fingers.
The latest item to graduate from my alterations pile is a knitted turtleneck dickey/bib that I bought for winter bicycling. Itโs drapey to the point of sagginess (because superwash wool), so it wasnโt great at keeping my neck warm. I inserted 5 rounds of elastic thread and now itโs perfect.

A social media post by David Staples, columnist with the Edmonton Journal Post Media Newspaper, posted on October 27, 2024 which reads: The huge win for everyone on all sides, left, right and centre, is an election where everyone believes the results are credible. We used to do this effortlessly. Vote on Election Day with proper ID. Vote with paper ballots. Votes counted by citizens with scrutineers.
A social media post by David Staples, columnist with the Edmonton Journal Post Media Newspaper, posted on October 20, 2025 which reads: Unbelievably stupid process to vote in Edmonton. Do they have no voter list anymore? Where they quickly check your name, ID and give you a ballot? Long line up to fill out paper with name/address, line up again so someone can check paperwork. Idiotic slow, stupid process.
A snippet from a news article stating "The process for voting is different this year, which can impact the time it takes to vote. All electors are legislatively required to complete a Statement of Eligibility Form (Form 13) at the voting station. This form is a declaration by an elector that they meet the required legislated criteria to receive and cast ballots. Also, some electors will need to be added to the permanent electors register before receiving their ballots. This can take time. We ask Edmontonians to plan ahead and please have patience.
๐คซ
Nobody tell David Staples this is all because of the changes me and my UCP have made to how municipal elections are held in Alberta.
Let's see if he can use his "journalism" skills to figure it out on his own!๐คญ
