Urbanism is about a lot more than getting around. Having places that people want to visit and spend time within is the real key to making a city great.

Edmonton has too many big attractions and too few third spaces - the local attractions. Sprawl and car dependency don't help, nor does delivery.

Infill brings people in to shrinking nhbds, including renters, just like vibrant cities like Montreal.

30m trees shading your property = good, but a 10.5m home = bad shade that destroys your solar potential.

Thankfully, committee noted that the offending infill would still be allowed under the proposed changes.

At some point, Edmonton changed the official la classification of Shared Streets and started pretending they were Local Street Bikeways, which are considered high comfort even though shared streets absolutely are not.

This study should be retracted for garbage quality control.

How can this possibly be true? The only bike infrastructure Edmonton built in those years was whatever neighbourhood renewal was building, and we rarely build high comfort level infrastructure.

Now do cars.

#yeg now has $62M/yr of new revenue from mature neighbourhood infill compared to 2016. That's over $330M added to city coffers

All using the same roads, pipes, preserving farmland and enabling neighbourhood-level shops.

All of this is thanks to Edmonton's pioneering approach to urban redevelopment

I guess I managed to impress upon the 311 agent I spoke to how much of a safety concern this was. They were on site within 2 hours, but all the vehicles were gone upon arrival.

Not good enough. The City is explicitly endorsing this behaviour if they drivers go unpunished.

They should have a '30 minutes or we don't bother' policy.

If an officer happens to be driving past something that's older then check while they are there, but the goal should be to attend every parking complaint within 30 minutes. It's a complete waste of resources to show up once the car is gone.

i think my academic employer’s refusal to provide indoor bike parking (e.g. in its very spacious underground parking garage) is premised on the claim that such storage poses a “fire hazard.”

Unsurprisingly, Edmonton has rich a$$holes too.

Every time I bike 102 ave lately I see more pedestrians than cars, and almost all of them (sometimes literally 100% of them) are in the bike lanes because the sidewalks are either lakes, unshovelled snow, or skating rinks.

I love that Edmonton has options that allows people to get around safe.

Edmonton punches above it's weight with transit, and we are nowhere close to realizing the untapped potential. Same with cycling.

It's nice to see a realtor leaning in to urbanized living. Edmonton is a great city to bike around!

Micro-mobility, shared or privately-owned, is certainly enabling a lot of more efficient, affordable, and safer transportation options. Docked would be nice in Edmonton where these devices can be a bit of a nuissance.

You should probably research where exclusionary zoning comes from, why 'most people want them'. It has a lot to do with who is being excluded.

My neighbourhood too! Now there is traffic calming and bike lanes everywhere. Time to move to Leduc .~
