This is heartbreakingly cruel and hypocritical. The same admin that has redefined refugee status to cover white South Africans is now going to drown thousands of refugees already approved for their status in red tape, potentially even seeking to strip some of their status and deport them.

However, being from the Xmas prime rib sect myself, I do consider it more valid.

that would be the obvious arg if Bondi can manage to install another mook willing to reindict.

Comey would say 3288 doesn't trigger because "an indictment" wasn't dismissed. Government would argue "for any reason" includes "void ab initio". And then much later an appeals court tells us who's right.

Alt text for fundraising-link labels graph: Line graph showing 3-day rolling average of fundraising-link labels emitted over the last 90 days, from August to November 2025. The vertical axis represents the number of labels emitted, ranging from 500 to 5,500. The red line depicts significant fluctuations, with most data points oscillating between 1,500 and 3,000 labels, and a dramatic spike to nearly 5,500 labels in late November. The x-axis shows dates in UTC from August 28 to November 27, with data points marked at weekly intervals. *sigh* The vast majority of these are from a a dozen or two accounts that have been posting 100-500 links a day. More insidious, they have a network of accounts that repost them without ever posting a link themselves.

basic someone saw this coming in like 2005 but unfortunately he started a religion about it that mostly serves to make worrying about this seem silly. also it produced marketing and seed funding for the companies that are doing it

I've been meaning to highlight the part of Mamdani / Trump conference where Trump had been YIMBY-pilled by Mamdani.

Total pan-ideological victory. We've got Mamdani and AOC, we've got the Abundance centrists, we've even got King MAGA singing the tune. Elite persuasion 100% speedrun.

You have to keep giving money to avoid collapse and if there’s collapse you have to give more money. It’s called the free market.

What’s amazing is the administration ran a month and half long case study 6 months ago using air power to coerce a political outcome and it didn’t do shit so why is this going to be different? secretaryrofdefenserock.substack.com/subscribe?si...

Especially crazy that we would use oil as a justification for war while existing as a net oil exporter, makes the whole national security fig leaf even more pathetic, just straight up imperialism in the names of accelerated extraction in the face of mass extinction

I feel like it's a lot harder to truly undo a national government like that compared to a paramilitary group. And even when successful, there's a very big "and then what happens" question. You have to think there's reasonable odds you'll like "what comes next"

I feel like that analogy falls aparts in multiple ways.

For one, what do we care about C2? Venezuelan C2 currently isn't a problem for usβ€”we're not (yet) in conflict.

And the alternative power to a Hezbollah vacuum was easy to answer: the actual Lebanese government (or also the IDF)

I'm real hazy on the internal political dynamics of Venezuela and who/which groups might fill any possible power void, if one is created.

but, i'm very dim on an air campaign's ability to effect any sort of significant political change.

If this is Hegseth cooking up a war he thinks the president will like because he's worried he's liable to get replaced by the Putin-loving general JD Vance is trying to install...

then the entire basis is so fucked that it's hard to say things will not continue to get even more fucked.

This is where I still don't understand who this is for, and what results they think they'll achieve with it.

Trump has long had it in for Maduro, and this might just be the viziers working towards the Fuhrer. Or the tail is wagging the dog. I really can't tell, which makes it hard to predict.

That said, they're already touting covert ops, which usually require some level of presence in the country (maybe all via intermediaries)

And, like, I can't say they won't feel pressured to escalate to prove they accomplished something.
