Can Ketamine Stop Deadly Epilepsy Seizures? UVA has received $9.3 million to test if ketamineΒ can save patients from grand mal seizures that won’t respond to other treatments.

One of UVA's clinician researchers is also heading up a big grant looking at using ketamine as seizure treatment newsroom.uvahealth.com/2025/01/29/c...

I wish I had more & better info for you. Do you have any local communities or groups that you can lean on as well?

Making America Healthy Again by defunding research on cancer, diabetes, and Alzheimer’s is an…interesting, and reckless, strategy

Contribution of perineuronal nets to hyperexcitability in pilocarpine‐induced status epilepticus Objective Changes in extracellular matrix (ECM) and highly condensed ECM structures called perineuronal nets (PNNs) have been reported in human patients with epilepsy as well as some animal models o...

Interneurons are the "brakes" of the brain, balancing out excitatory activity. If they are are more active in our model, they could be forming nets to try to balance overexcitation, or the nets could be forming due to increased activity...

... which can lead to future seizures and developing epilepsy, but exactly what happens is not fully known.

These interneurons developing new nets makes them more excitable in our model- so the neurons are firing more than w/o nets, which is both exciting and new!

Hi friends- if you're interested in what I've been doing for the last 6+ years, I'm defending my dissertation on July 11th at 11am! Come tune in on zoom (message me for the link!) to hear about why we think matrix structures called #perineuronalnets are important in seizing mice.

I have learned that the directors of ALL: PREP, IMSD, and IRACDA programs across the country have received similar cancelation notices. This follows previous cancellations of MARC and URISE programs. This further dismantles the mechanisms that enable scientific training opportunities for SO MANY.

It may not be cool or hip in some circles, but we legitimately do need a massive amount of people to run for office.

Flood the school boards, councils, county seats, state legislatures, Congress, etc.

Big changes at the top happen when the ground shifts at the bottom. And that can start now.
