A scrap of left-over puff pastry, a single egg white. A lifetime’s conditioning of waste not, want not.
Line a 6” prospector pan, spread the base with the last scrapings of a jar of jam. Mix the egg white with some ground almonds and sugar (pantry staples here) and spread this paste over the jam.

Creating a feast for a fiver is quite a feat. But Patricia Chung mama to the Rangoon Sisters did just that for Jamie Oliver’s Feast for a Fiver programme on Channel 4.
