All that aside, while my nephew's father is a massive piece of shit, of all the terrible things he deserves, being taken by the fucking Gestapo isn't one of them. I really wish I knew what to do here.

Do ICE know about them? If they do, are they about to raid their homes? Can they go out on the street? Will their children be snatched out of school? If they try to come back to Brazil, will they be taken at the airport? We just don't know.

His family — my nephew's grandparents, uncles, aunts, cousins — are also there. As far as I know their immigration status is in order. There are *children* there. And they have no idea if ICE are coming after them as well.

Whole truth told, I hate the motherfucker. He was abusive towards my sister, he called me an ableist slur on at least one occasion that I know of and he keeps pretending his son isn't his and has no interaction with him. But he's not the only one at risk.

Don't know how he gets out of this. He *is* there illegally, not that that should matter, and we strongly suspect he's been dealing drugs. He fits ICE's racist caricature of a latino immigrant almost perfectly. The cunts are probably salivating at the thought of brutalising him.

Yeah that's my issue with the whole thing. I don't really care The Lore™ or the fact that the NCR is for all intents and purpose on its death throes, in fact that's exactly what was really obvious was gonna happen. It's *why* they fell that's just really disappointing to me.

When I found out that's what happens I just kinda lost interest. It's not a bad narrative when viewed in isolation but knowing that it set in stone the direction the games' story *has* to go now really dampened my interesting in the franchise's future. Wish the show was its own continuity, really.

I think the way New Vegas implied that the NCR's imperialism would inevitably lead to their doom was a more interesting direction than having a flawed-but-functional democracy be crippled by a company that didn't really have anything to do with them.

To be clear, I wouldn't know, I haven't watched the show. Not cos I think it's *bad*, in fact it seems good if looked at on its own and the themes, as you mentioned, also seem worthwhile. I'm just not a fan of the show making the NCR's downfall come from external forces rather than their own greed.

Not that it was ever really gonna happen, but man, just another reason why I'm not particularly excited about the direction the show takes the series narrative, even if it's apparently really good on its own terms.

Hmmm, maybe. Which will probably never happen as well, now that the West Coast seems to be the purview of the TV show.

I was about to say someone should make a mod restoring that in New Vegas but I wouldn't be surprised if that mod already exists.

It was gonna feature part of California, though, wasn't it? Or were the NCR supposed to have expanded to Colorado instead of Nevada?

I think either Sawyer or Avellone said at one point that setting New Vegas in the Mojave instead of in California as was the original plan for Van Buren was a mistake. Which I don't really agree with but I think it's interesting.

Oh was it? That's funny. I only played 2 with the fan patch that restores the cut content. It's fucking hilarious if the thrust of the NCR's arc in 2 got screwed up because of the game's terrible development cycle.

It's valid to say that in real life it wouldn't be nearly as easy as the game makes it, to protect the native population's independence *and* their well-being, but then IRL it also would take more than one traveller to tip the scales of a massive war, so.

I mean, it depends. A lot of Outer Vegas is filled with violent murderers but there are also peaceful families who just want to live their lives. The game gives the player plenty of ways to protect those families without handing them to any of the empires circling them.

Well yes, but take the Vault City quest line in 2 for example. Yes, it's better to hand the territory to the NCR than leave it in the hands of the de facto slave drivers currently there, but it's better still to hand the city to the citizens who are already and want to fix things.

They're *better*, not necessarily good. It's the reason why all of the native Mojave settlers in New Vegas are more receptive to a Courier aligned with an independent Vegas; while the NCR is certainly better than the Legion or House, the people would rather the NCR also get off their land.

The basis of the NCR's arc across 2 and New Vegas is that, while a lot of their goals are admirable, their greed and land-grabbing are leading them to repeating a lot of the Old World US's mistakes. That's why it's explicitly said they won't be able to hold the Mojave even if you side with them.
