Remembering the Somme: a moment in time at the Sunken Lane opposite Beaumont-Hamel, men waiting to go into action at Zero Hour #OTD in 1916. A timeless, incredibly moving, sequence of film.

Today we remember the final farewells,
the last letters scribbled in haste,
the hollow whistles of zero hour,
and the lines of men rising from their trenches out into hell.

Remembering those who fell, who fought and who lived with the memories of the 1st July 1916.

If anyone tells you the generals employed the same tactics over and over again in the Great War, ask if they’ve ever heard of the battle of Cambrai, launched on this day in 1917. Innovative, technical, technological, terrifying. And still not perfect. #cambraiday

#OTD in 1916 is the official end of British participation in the Battle of the Somme. But it did not end: fighting continued, flaring up at particular moments until the Germans began strategic withdrawal to the Hindenburg Line in 1917. #WW1 #FWW #history

108 years ago today on 15 September 1916, British tanks first saw action. The innovative design, with caterpillar tracks completely encircling a rhomboid hull, enabled them to cross trenches that would defeat more modern tanks. (Imperial War Museum www.iwm.org.uk/collections/...) #WW1 #FWW

A Bridge Too Far is a Hollywood view of Market Garden. My two books are based on facts, primary sources. Why and where did Market Garden fail? Purchase Lost at Nijmegen. All Market Garden facts from primary sources? Purchase Little Sense of Urgency

Ahead is 80 year commemoration of Market Garden. A LOT OF OLD HISTORY on TV, news papers and magazines. Pretty frustrating. If you wan't a modern assessment, buy/read my two books. Would be a smart move. πŸ˜‰ pre-jump.nl (A repost is very much appreciated!)

A Bridge Too Far is a Hollywood view of Market Garden. My two books are based on facts, primary sour... RG Poulussen researched and wrote two books on operation Market Garden - Lost At Nijmegen & Little Sense Of Urgency both mainly based on primary sources.

You all have an opinion about operation Market Garden, but chances are you don't have all the facts. πŸ˜‰ (Please retweet, I don't have a marketing department promoting my books.) pre-jump.nl

This massive and accurate model of the VC-10 is in the storage area of the Avro Heritage Museum, seen at today's We Have Ways visit.
But..it is a r/c flying model!
Grounded by its owner as it once decided for a few seconds to go on its own journey before safely returning to land. Wow. #WeHaveWays
