03.11.2025 19:15 โ ๐ 67 ๐ 10 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This really is the perfect example of "sex is binary."
Yeah, in the same way being a tree or a grass is binary. You can "disagree" or "not believe in" things all you want, but BAMBOO IS JUST GONNA KEEP ON EXISTING and defying your grass/tree binary. And palm trees are gonna keep growing.
As a biologist, It really is a great analogy. Also trees. It's like saying, "There are trees and grass, you have to be one or the other." Ok... where is the line that defines "is a tree?" what about bush-like grasses? Palm trees? NON-tree palms? What about horsetails and their tree-like ancestors?

Srsly it's a half hour of some guy giving anecdotes about how he's a great public speaker, but he's saying absolutely nothing.
He's mentioned like five times that he's "trained presidents".
Got assigned some "communication skills" educational videos for work, and I am just overwhelmed with wondering whether neurotypical ppl actually find this stuff helpful???
03.11.2025 17:42 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Anyway, I am celebrating the first day we've had low temperatures under 50F, even though it's gonna be in the 80s again next week.
31.10.2025 02:52 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Also entirely unintentional but earlier this afternoon I also started crocheting a scarf in some nice silvery yarn I've had forever, and I just now noticed that the scarf will match really well with dad's old coat.
31.10.2025 02:52 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0So I ripped off the entire zipper from each of the coats and then sewed the new zipper onto dad's old coat so it'd be compatible with the liner. And like. That worked.
It's actually really nice.
Liner is nice & soft. Coat fits good. Plus it's from my dad which is why I wanted it in the first place.
Zipper looked the same but apparently different enough to stick. Fuck.
Spent some time fixing up the new coat and figuring I could just wear it instead. Washing it to get the ebay stink off, mended some tears, etc.
Tried it on. I still liked the way dad's coat fit better.
Found a slightly paint-spattered but still very nice London Fog coat in my dad's stuff that I wanted to use, but the zip-in liner was missing.
Ordered a similar model coat off ebay with the intention of just taking the lining off that one and using it in dad's coat.
The zipper didn't fit.
Heathcliff and a few other cats loudly celebrate on the sidewalk on a clear night as several sentient purple blobs slither down the street, looking forward with vacant stares. Two owls watch from a tree, and one of them says "The annual blob migration."

28.10.2025 13:43 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0The original Far Side Cow Tools Cartoon by Gary Larson. A cow stands on its hind legs behind a table, staring blankly at the viewer from behind its heavy brow ridge. On the table are four crudely made tools: a lump, a lump with an offset crooked handle, a long stick with hooked prongs at the end, and a crude handsaw with irregular teeth. In the background a barn sits on a hill. Caption reads, "Cow tools."
43 years ago today, readers the world over opened their newspapers and gazed upon cow tools for the first time. happy birthday cow tools. you look great.

22.10.2025 19:29 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I probably had around a dozen pet rats. They only live about 3 years max. I'm assuming these vet offices upgraded their systems at some point and the emails are automatic, but it's truly surreal, especially when the name is misspelled and I'm trying to remember if I even had a pet by that name.
22.10.2025 19:29 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0If I had a nickel for each time a vet's office has sent me a text/email out of the blue wishing a happy birthday to one of the pet rats I had ~25 years ago... tbh I can't even keep track of how many times it's happened, but it's been a lot.

Anyway, I'm looking forward to the winter when I have to bring in my outdoor plants and it'll be even more crowded, but this is my current view from my desk at home.

20.10.2025 15:16 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Every time I look at my beautiful wall of plants, I think about the time when my a/c was broken in the summer, and our HVAC guy inspected it. He knew the a/c was borked and we'd need him to replace it, but his main comment was "it would be less humid if you got rid of the plants"
