We're continuing our #idleg state budget cuts coverage all week, and I wanted to draw your attention to this one. Pardons and Parole Executive Director Christine Starr told the Sun the estimate of $620,000 in more prison costs as a result of parole and pardon cuts is conservative.

These cuts are coming just a few months before what is - based on the lack of snow this winter - likely to be a quite dangerous fire season. So, you know, we've got that going for us.

Starting with the '26 #idahofire season, Idaho Department of Lands will be forced to hire fewer seasonal firefighters in the Eastern Idaho Fire Protection District.

Apparently, the crew went out and broke and remarked the trail between Yukon River Bridge and Steven's Village (and maybe further). So, it should be easier going today but the upshot is that Josi's lead has been cut significantly, but she still as about 12 miles on Jeff. #mushersky 5/5

From the replay it appears they worked together to find the trail and get to the CP. About 5 miles before the CP, Jeff stopped for a rest while Josi continued into the CP. Josi rested about 3 hours, while Jeff took 4, so that's roughly the distance between them now. #mushersky 4/

This made it very difficult to find the trail and led to slow going for both teams. Each team bedded on the trail with Jeff about 15 miles behind Josi. After a 4.5 hour rest, he was on the move and eventually reached her camping spot. 3/

Jason and Patrick Mackey are 48 miles back and about to arrive at the Beaver checkpoint. Apparently Josi and Jeff had a bit of an adventure on the run from Beaver to Steven's Village. The report from KattiJo Deeter was that the trail was blown over and markers were a mile apart. #mushersky 2/

Checking in on the YQA 750, Josi Shelley is still leading at mile 426, and is 12 miles from the Yukon River Bridge CP where she will be taking a mandatory 24 hour rest. Jeff Deeter is about 12 miles behind her. Jonah Bacon is about 20 miles behind Jeff. #mushersky 1/
