Legitimately, between the Part 1 and Part 2 of the Pairs Short Program we were trying to watch, it must have taken us 90 minutes to watch like 8 pairs skate. It hit 11pm, we saw there was still 40 minutes left on Part 2 and went to bed. She's attempting to finish Part 2 before the Free Skate today.

As I explained it to my wife, NBC more than any other broadcaster KNOWS they have you over a barrel for golf, olympics, whatever. And they push the envelope of what you'll tolerate as far as ads, not your sport, etc, in order to watch. Basically NBC is going, "What are you doing to do, not watch?"

More or less, it's a fucking joke trying to watch the replay of something on Peacock. You'll watch 15-20 minutes of ads, 10 minutes or so skipping ahead to avoid the BS, and then you get 15-20 minutes of your actual event. It's a joke. And I can't believe people pay to use this shit.

You'll watch one pair skate, maybe 2 minutes of skating, and then there's a two minute ad break. You try to skip ahead past the talking, the Tkachuck segment, the other sport look-in, and you see MORE ads. Legitimately you might sit through thee ad breaks on Peacock before you see more skating.

So in this example, the Pairs Short Program Part 1, it was like an hour and five minutes long. MAYBE 15-20 minutes of it was ACTUALLY skating. Why can't they lop off the other shit that's NOT skating and post a condensed version? And don't get me started on how fucking bad the commercials are.

Wife and I try to watch the Figure Skating after our kids fall asleep. The replay is available on Peacock. But they show the entire segment that aired during the skating. So you see the warmups, some skating, and then a 5-7 minute segment about the Tkachuk Brothers, or "live" look at another sport.

Trying to watch a little more of the Olympics this year, and man alive I cannot stand NBC's coverage of basically anything that's not the NFL. The Live coverage is whatever, but the Replays when you try to watch them on Peacock will drive you to the brink of insanity. Let me explain.

Five events into the PGA Tour season, and four of them have been won by TGL guys. Clearly, TGL is the best place to hone your game and get ready for the big moments.

Plus it has pool, tennis, restaurant etc. Basically things my wife would also use outside the golf course.

Yeah and considering my usual course is like 30 from my home or office, this seems like it’s the way to go.

Holy hell! My cousin back in MI is this way. His home club is like an hour from his house. But it’s one of the like Top-25 or so courses in the state, so I sort of get it.

I *think* the play is to see how often I play this year and then base it on that. But also, our kid will be 5 next year and that seems like when he’d want to golf, and if I can get he and my wife out there once a month, in addition to my golf, that would make it worth it.

Really, it would be like $100 cheaper per month after cart fees, to keep playing the state park course ($41 for 18 and a cart?!), but it’s a meh course, and tee times can vary since it’s fully public and very affordable. And there’s no amenities. No restaurant, pool, pro shop, etc.

Barely any. It’s $250 initiation. It’s a “semi” private that is basically a private, but jacks up the public rates to keep it from getting swamped for the members.

It’s “semi” private, but what they did is jack the rates up for the public so it’s not swarmed for the members. It’s $85 and $95, but it’s more like a $60 course. And cart is NOT included in the $190, that’s $24 per round. I guess I’d have to see how often I play this year, then decide for next year

The 30 isn’t bad. In fact it’s 5 minutes closer than the state park course I play most frequently. The goal/hope would be to play 3-4 times a month when the weather allows. It’s out of county, so the membership is $190/month + $30 food and bev. Rack rate is $85 weekday, $95 weekend. Has a pool etc.

Went to check out a golf course I’m interested in joining yesterday, and it was really pretty. Very hilly, nice water features, nice clubhouse and pool area. It’s 37 minutes from my house and 30 from my office. Is that too far to drive for a golf membership? It checks all the boxes otherwise.

Especially when the guy putting is chasing the individual title…and they show the team scores and his team is 13 shots back or whatever. It makes no sense. And like you say, who cares?

Not just that it’s deeply unserious, it’s a genuinely bad product. Playing B- courses and the same 2-3 guys at the top of the leaderboard every week is just an impossible ask.

I’ve long said it’s like if they made RedZone for golf. Which doesn’t work at all in golf because you need context for the shot and giving it time to breathe and build. And then the music playing makes me want to mute the TV immediately. Deeply unserious stuff.
