Fresh Air dedicated a whole episode to an interview with and performances by the great young multi-instrumentalist Jerron Paxton, who has a new album out on Smithsonian Folkways. He's been a leading light in traditional blues for a decade, but has been under-recorded.

I just did a public interview with "Juke Joint" photographer Birney Imes and German photographer Axel KΓΌstner a couple months back in West Point, MS--they're old friends, and Birney had curated an exhibit of Axel's photos. Birney's a wonderful guy, and his other two photo books are great as well.

The earliest known βcountryβ recording has been found. The singer? A Black man.
A new release of an 1891 song by Louis Vasnier deepens what we know about the genreβs origins.

The blues research community, notably the Real Blues Forum, is one of the main reasons I go to FB - many leading experts are there, and sub-sites have lots of rare video, scanned in vintage mags, etc. It's nominally limited to artists in the blues discographies, so no SRV vs Clapton debates
