Creating human habitation may be one of the *most* essentially humanist arts there is. Computers can help, but they can't replace the human-to-human conversation underlying a blueprint.

I think one piece that TechBros are missing about the value of AI is that every problem that humans have needs to take human users into account, and algorithms are not human. Even "STEM" things like engineering/architecture are deeply human activities that take human needs into account.

Everything I learned from being in bad interpersonal relationships with people who seem to have great potential but never change, I am trying to cross-apply to other relationships, lol.

Personally, besides trying to create assignments that are AI-proof (which is impossible to get 100% right), I am trying to convince students that they need to value authenticity, scholarship, truthfulness, etc., and to be fair, *most* of them do value those things.

It's frustrating, and I think it's extra frustrating since this is broadcast every day from the highest offices of government.

I know, you gotta just let it go though. There have always been students who got away with cheating, and there always will be. They're cheating themselves, they don't care, and there's no justice and may not ever be, and you don't control it. Focus on the kids doing good work who want to learn.

For example, they could have told me when they released the second question ("early"), "we are making this exception due to the holidays," but that was not conveyed.

My impression is that it was not the case to begin with, since both me and my advisor thought that the questions would be released as they were completed. My impression is that it is only the case now that they were caught being incompetent and it's a convenient loophole to blame.

The long email they prepared as a response to my pleas was very CYA-coded.

I said in the future, they should consider releasing the questions all at once instead of this dribbled-out nonsense. But they said basically, "no."

I got my next comps question.

NOW they tell me that they only release comps questions every 5 days (not "you have up to 5 days to answer it" but "you have to take 5 days to answer it") and that they "made an exception" when they released my other question after only 2 days.

The first time I had to "make a phone call home" on a kindergartener for his behavior, and heard what his parent said he would do to him when he got home, I was like, nope i quit.

I slept until 1 and woke up to numerous student emails, emails about my upcoming interview, but NO responses to my requests for my comps questions to be released, nor the questions.
