𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘠𝘢𝘬𝘶𝘻𝘢 (1974) starring Robert Mitchum and Ken Takakura. Takakura walks through Koma Geki Mae, now Cine City Square, in Kabukicho, Shinjuku 🎥 The place has changed (Toyoko kids, tourists, and touts) but some things appear the same.

(3/4) Interesting shots of Ginza and Shitamachi not long after the war. Household air-cons didn’t come till late ’50s, so plenty of uchiwa and senpuuki, and the heat builds till lightning strikes. Some funny bits and Takamine’s performance make it worth watching. One of Naruse’s better films.

(2/4) Takamine was Japan’s leading 1950s actress. In 𝘓𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵𝘯𝘪𝘯𝘨 she plays Kiyoko, a Ginza tour guide with three siblings all from different fathers. She feels surrounded by deadbeats (all men) and wants out.
