Her portrayal of asylum seekers doesn't just respond to the racist narratives of the Far Right: by othering asylum seekers as unworthy winners of riches, in implicit contrast to struggling families, Shabana Mahmood actively promotes and feeds those Far Right lies.

Anyone with an iota of support for human rights should totally condemn the Labour Party for pursuing this disgraceful path.

You know when you see politicians talking about the British generosity, they’re going to say something deeply unpleasant. It’s not so different to J.D.Vance’s β€˜have you even said thank you?’

Tommy Robinson, Sargon of Akkad, Rupert Lowe.

Getting the whole spectrum of far-right nasties on your side is not a good look, Labour.

Aside from the cruelty of this, I’d just like to know why it’s ok to ignore and disappoint liberal/progressive voters.
Why do governments chase Farage and his voters, thinking that will neutralise them. It’s NEVER worked. He’s leading in the polls and his ideas have ruined us. WTF are you doing?

Whenever I feel bad About not really understanding politics and economics, the government of the day does something to show they don’t understand politics and economics either.

Pay back your travel expenses Jenkyns!

Reform UK’s Andrea Jenkyns is claiming travel expenses for her job as Mayor of Lincolnshire, why? Because she lives in Yorkshire (despite saying she lives in Lincolnshire on her nomination forms).

In 2015 Cameron won an overall majority, and it was thrown away by May in 2017 because of Brexit.

In 2019 Johnson won a thumping majority, and yet he was out of office less than three years later.

In 2024 Starmer won a thumping majority and seems to have no idea what to do with it.

Nowhere in the hysterical pile-on against the BBC in the British press has anyone mentioned that BBC News now has 77 million viewers & listeners in the US and has established itself as the second most trusted news source there.

There’s someone over there who’s getting what I’m not getting.

If people cannot get over this, then we’ll get Farage as PM.

Don’t let the right’s divide-and-conquer propaganda trick you.

The fact that the BBC has made serious culpable errors does not negate the point that there is a real and concerted right-wing media campaign to destroy it. Both points can be true at the same time and the campaign would not end even if the errors did.

Maybe Keir should demand the heads of major US news networks any time they imply Britain is on the brink of civil war or that we live under sharia law. Or does it not work both ways?

Should Gibb be sacked? yes, obviously. He's an abomination of basic journalistic standards. His GB News channel spreads conspiracy theory & disinformation. His Jewish Chronicle newspaper spreads invented stories. He is plainly trying to undermine the BBC so it's as bad as everything else he touches.

A big win for people more outraged by a silly edit at the BBC than by a man impeached by Congress for literally inciting an insurrection being back in the White House. Pathetic.

Yes, Mr. President: You’re right. We do have β€œthe worst health care” of any major country.

Despite spending twice as much per capita, we are the only major country not to guarantee health care to all as a human right.

The solution: Medicare for All.

With Zohran Mamdani's inspiring victory, Republicans are yet again fearmongering about "socialism."

But conservatives always yell β€œsocialism” at every initiative designed to help people.

It's nothing more than an old scare tactic. https://youtu.be/xq02yuY4wDQ?si=akvbkf8GSClBEHLt

I’m struggling to work out how Labour think this is going to be an effective attack line. It’s certainly not to win back the β€˜soft Yes’ or even β€˜maybe’ vote. But maybe that’s not their aim.

'If we ignore this warning from the past we will unleash monsters once more' The right-wing is becoming more and more radicalised and we’re entering a very dark time politically, Neil Mackay warns

What’s the opposite of β€˜woke’? The right’s sleep of reason

The Tories and Reform now embrace mask-off racism. They’re self-radicalising at an alarming rate, becoming ever more dangerous, cruel and hysterical. There’s a frightening madness about their behaviour

Not Everything Can Be An Emergency Tomorrow’s argument before SCOTUS is about far more than Trump’s illegal tariffs

Ever since day one of his second term, Trump has used β€˜national emergencies’ to bypass Congress and rule by decree. This week, the Supreme Court will weigh in, and if it sides with him, the decision could pave the way for unchecked presidential power and a slide toward autocratic rule in the U.S.

unbelievable. Chancellor gives major speech at 8am, BBC Radio4 Today prog allows about 5 minutes of this to air, then goes straight to pro-right wing editorialising!!

I bet if it had been Farage they'd have aired the speech in full, then reverentially had a Reform spox in the studio to amplify it.
