eggplants kinda rule too, that's a B+ tier food for me

nothing can touch the S+ potato, the only S+ tier & the best food in existence bar none easily, but even so the eggplant is a charmer

in a way a garden is kind of like the sea, with weird life flooding out everywhere as soon as you start to look, & it's all kind of a brutal orgy of violence

but it's also really beautiful & fractally complex & some of the stuff in there tastes great so who's to say if it's bad or not

it kind of makes me feel like a bit of a worthless freak to be heir to all this abundance yet with half the wherewithal exactly because of it; one wonders what the ancestors would think

but at any rate it probably redeems at least a little honor in their eyes to grow some badass edible plants

that's funny, you say that every time we go around

it's the beans that are a guy with skin surrounding a mealy core who get you

if you try to eat a bean like that you automatically gag & your head spins & if you're going to swallow at all you better be taking a gulp of water

"that doesn't happen to me"

no, i've tried it many times, it happens

edamame holds no aversion or appeal to me, but i can do both chickpeas & lentils & i think they're pretty good, i'll have to hand a B to chickpeas & an A to lentils

if there's exactly two things i should quite like to change about my neurotype associated proclivities:

i would love to not hate the texture of untreated wood, & love to not hate the texture of certain mealy foods

oh well! we live & life goes on

not only is it delicious, cheap, ethical, varied, & nutritious

it also feels just exotic enough (anyway out by the kentucky bluegrass) that one feels like a proper sophisticate every time one eats it

"would food for a proper sophisticate be served in the mall food court?"

okay calm down now tulpa

red beans are no doubt the worst, & limas the next worst; the mealy texture of the infernal legumes makes them inedible

in comparison, green beans are an acceptable if unimpressive vegetable, since they're just a leaf around a little guy

& tofu, in which the bean has been transformed, is s tier

if it ruins the joke to notice that coffee is technically "not a bean", i think it mostly redeems it to say that i really am being honest about the bean thing, they've always been among the sadly many food aversions:

i've never been much of a coffee drinker, being somewhat pythagorean in my approach to beans, so i can't say i share the same personal involvement in the gustation above described

but the general tenor of the thing is familiar; i should think developing such particularities will pay off post-foom

(the foregoing bisk doubles as a general purpose "refutation" of almost anything anyone says; but other than that ms lincoln, i think you'll find the play was great)

they lay the hero down to rest
still with chevrons on his chest
& all the party gave their thanks
acknowledging the king of pranks
then when entombed beneath the ground
he ope'd his eyes & looked around:
he'd fooled them once again

well, it wasn't evit'd, so that's a notch on your belt at least

oh, i could never, i'm not that good at modesty

you know, i knew you knew knew that, but i didn't know you knew i knew you knew i knew your knowing

when the disavowel exhibits the praised trait as in the above punning reply, it's safe to say a wry awareness lurks behind the utterance, waiting for its chance once again to ostentatiously exhibit modesty

i'd tell you to ask me how i know, but that would be immodest

able knows, though

oddly, the jokings don't actually seem to joke very much

(but i guess that's how it would be, wouldn't it? if the concept of sentient jokes somehow controlled the largest polity on earth, well, you can call it ironic, but i don't think it would be very funny...)

14.02.2026 02:36 — 👍 2    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

& for those with ears to hear, it's as though he's discussing some strange magical realism scenario wherein the sentient Spirit of Humor is somehow dubiously in control of ancient china

like yeah of course we have to make offerings to "the jokings", why wouldn't we

14.02.2026 02:35 — 👍 2    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

anyway, thanks to his accent & to the pronunciation of chinese proper names, it really sounds like he's talking about "the jokings" the whole time

The Western Zhou Dynasty and the Spring and Autumn Period - Explained
YouTube video by GatesOfKilikien The Western Zhou Dynasty and the Spring and Autumn Period - Explained

changing topic less than may initially seem, i recently watched this really good chinese history documentary (reader, whoever you are: i recommend this whole channel)

& in it kilikien the host speaks many times about how various chinese warlords & local leaders would interact with the zhou kings

i can tell you're an urbanist at heart, because you love this most pedestrian of puns

14.02.2026 02:28 — 👍 3    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

i think that is often true,

but with the caveat that the im not sure how "teachable" people really are & if the game really helps

certainly it does tend to show a lack of the relevant skill, but your median quokka is probably "stuck that way" & if they can learn at all it will be with patient help

* worlds biggest autumn fan voice *

ultimately it's fall that matters

14.02.2026 02:23 — 👍 4    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

yeah

analogy:

one might be a good football player & a great fan of the game, but if their friends are skinny brittlebones it's probably not prosocial to play tackle with them

one thing i like in the mind clay here is that i share your sense that in some cases people are too stuck on the idea of "Just Cooperate" at the expense of the more appropriate "jostling" that goes on between peers all of whom can "handle themselves" in the midst of the uncertainty
