At this point no John Carpentar film is “underrated.” All the worthwhile ones have been thoroughly reappraised and reclaimed by a passionate and substantial fanbase. And those couple misfires? Collectively ignored in an almost hivemind-like unspoken unison.

All that to say, I'm bummed, man! Prey was nice and R rated. Why? Studio pressure? I'm judt bummed. And this coming from an enormous, shout it from the roof tops, fan of famously PG-13 AVP.

I'd argue that only one of the two franchises you're comparing was born of an R rating. I think saying you can get away with a lot with pg-13 is somewhat of a different conversation compared to being disappointed that the live action follow up to the literal bloodiest Predator installment yet...
