Trailer: Gender In/Of Science: Feminist Conversations Part 2
Conceptualised by Prof. Gita Chadha, Sociologist and Honorary Senior Fellow at the Archives and Obaid Siddiqi Chair 2023–24, this series critically explores masculinity in the world of science. Across seven episodes, we engage with six male faculty members at NCBS in conversations about the figure of the ‘man of science’. What does this identity mean? In what ways does it distance itself from politics, aesthetics, religion, and emotion — and are these separations justified or necessary? Feminists have long interrogated gender and patriarchy from the standpoint of women’s experiences. But feminism is incomplete unless it also critiques how masculinity is shaped, performed, and institutionalised—especially in domains like science. This series is dedicated to Prof. Obaid Siddiqi. Watch the trailer, tune into the series. Help us bring these reflections into broader public discourse—across science, the social sciences, and the humanities. #GenderInScience #ManOfScience #FeministScienceStudies #MasculinityInScience Image Credits: Archives at NCBS Collections: NI-001- NCBS Establishment, MS-001- Obaid Siddiqi Link to the collections: https://catalogue.archives.ncbs.res.in/repositories/resources Wikimedia Commons Raju, A., & Siggia, E.
