Click Here to Exit: An Evaluation of Quick Exit Buttons

If you've ever needed to design and implement a 'Quick exit' bar for a site (usually for an at-risk audience), this is the most phenomenally well-researched and complete thinking I've seen on the topic. 10,000 words and all of it valuable. Bookmark it. dl.acm.org/doi/fullHtml...

How to load CSS (fast) Loading styles on the web is something that looks trivial at first. You just add a <link rel=stylesheet> to your page (or <style> for inline styles) and you're done. But if you wanted to load CSS fas...

Technology regrets: Synology NAS. Overly complicated, over-engineered and temperamental. Thought I was permanently solving a longtime problem but just swapped for new ones. #wouldntdoagain

First 10 minutes into MacOS #Tahoe. First gut feel: I try hard not to just react to the 'NEW=BAD'ness of it, but, boy, there's seems to be a lot of new visually busy-ness without an obvious benefit.

Yes, I remember thinking years ago, 'who would ACTUALLY ever code on their phone?'. Turns out, increasingly often, me. Sometimes it's just a case of : An idea occurs and I'd have to go upstairs to grab my laptop and bed is cosy.

How to Discover a CSS Trick | CSS-Tricks Do we invent or discover CSS tricks? Lee Meyer discusses how creative limitations, recursive thinking, and unexpected combinations lead to his most interesting ideas.

As someone who has heard 'why wouldn't you just use JavaScript to do that?' too many times to recall, I really resonated with this piece from Lee Meyer.

@joshwcomeau.com I found your @container query piece a great foundation. Am I wasting my time trying to use @container to make a text element where the font-size gets smaller as you add more characters (i.e. the width stays the same)? I'm pretty sure I am..

This is SUCH as great lead-in to not just what SVG is, but why it is so fun and powerful to work with. It's easy to lose designers at the moment you mention the idea of 'making an image by typing with code'. This introduction makes that mental leap so much more 'jumpable'.

Different DC and Marvel superheroes described using CSS. Some of them are a bit of a stretch or too niched (or both), but at the time it looked like a fun approach, so I even did a second take on this idea 20 cartoons later.

i was told that my blog post on making an accessible toast notification had a typo.

so of course when i fixed that, i also ended up adjusting some of the content and adding a whole new section about popovers at the end.
