yup, looks like a bad implementation. Go specs just say "That is, if the surrounding function returns through an explicit return statement, deferred functions are executed after any result parameters are set by that return statement but before the function returns to its caller"

Well I must say I never asked myself where/when exactly defer goes into action but in the first example, if defer only assign a value to err ("="), it must be part of the control block "if ..." for otherwise err is not accessible. This second version with its var decl. should behave similarly?

I'd say something else went wrong 'cause defer plays last but there is probably a trap :)

Frontend is a maze and I'm not aware of any shortcuts to the path html->css->js->framework. Jump directly into a framework and you're likely to be completely lost

Ok, ti posso dare il mio parere pero non sono uno specialista di UI (ho letto "go",no frontend ;)). Il frontend è pulito pero personalmente non sarei andato aldilà del login. Come utente voglio vedere il risultato prima di tutto. Se guardi tinyurl, vedi che ti mostrano il shortlink prima di tutto.

Se vuoi un feedback, sarà, immagino, sul codice però non vedo il GitHub o simile

I understand your frustration. In a way, idiomatic behavior is to be expected with a language that has as little as 25 keywords. Resisting it will only grow your frustration :) If I may, "learning Go, an idiomatic approach" is a great starting point if you have to work in Go.

Unless you know defers are run in LIFO order, which comes mentioned in any decent golang book
