Finished!

After months of work, I’ve finally completed my first tabletop piece. This one took a bit longer than I expected, but it was worth it.

I’m really happy with the way the inlaid “Six” and “12” worked out. I might have to incorporate that look into some future projects.

Daniel 4 describes a metamorphosis from man to clawed beast, but also mentions eating grass like an ox & feathers like an eagle, so only works if you want therianthropy more broadly rather than lycanthropy specifically.

Zephaniah 3:3 might work. "...her judges are evening wolves" (KJV). Maybe also Ezekiel 22:27, but it uses a simile rather than a metaphor.

The pixelated visuals with the stop motion animation is such a striking combination of digital & practical. I've never seen anything quite like it before! Wonder if there are any other examples of this approach or if this is truly one of a kind?

Maybe it's a watch time thing? If watching stuff too fast affects how much time people spend on YouTube it might affect ad views.

I recently had a new UI appear for the video player briefly but it still had the same settings. Always weird when corps remove minor choices from sites/software though, after proving they have the power to implement them but are just choosing not to.

Good thing about the console method is it works on most sites not just YouTube (even BlueSky), & let's you type in whatever speed you want, even weird speeds like 2.77, 3.14, or 100.

Still, it'd be convenient to have x3 by default. Wonder if they'll eventually roll it out to everyone? 🤔

Prompt that the console method provides after pasting the following into the browser console (Right click -> "Inspect element" -> "Console" tab): var v = document.querySelector('video'); var t = prompt('Set the playback rate'); v.playbackRate = parseFloat(t) Paste the whole thing in at once, rather than each line separately, & hit "Enter".

You had x3 & x4 by default? I've never had more than a x2 option. To go faster I've always pasted a bit of code into the browser console. (See alt text if you're interested.)

One detail I'd add is that labs are often shared spaces with multiple research groups sharing equipment, each with different needs, which is why the shelves above the benches end up accumulating so much. A private lab might be more organised, so the clutter level may depend on context.

Absolutely! People imagine bio labs are pristine, but working labs are often cluttered. Lots of sticky notes, bottles, overflowing shelves. These images are usually closer to reality than typical lab stock images. Hygiene still matters though so don't forget laminar flow hoods & nitrile gloves.

Tiny little pearl skulls arranged in a pattern that resembles a heart.

The Japanese artist Shinji Nakaba is a master of creating skulls and other anatomical forms from pearls no larger than the end of a finger tip. Nakaba considers these works “wearable sculptures,” as each pearl takes the form of a ring, necklace, or pin.

This borage blossom from spring is a cheerer-upper. I can't believe days are getting shorter again already.

Some shots from an England trip back in ‘05. Taken with a point-and-click Kodak with black and white film.
I probably took 7-10 rolls of film, but some got damaged and couldn’t be developed, then some of the printed photos got lost in numerous moves. These are a few I’ve got left.

Like instead of commanding the weather to mourn, Dracula commands the weather to "purge [his] sorrow". Similar, but different enough to change the vibe of the scene.

Not usually a subs over dubs snob, but honestly this compared to original Japanese is night & day. If you liked this, give the sub a go. It's not just the style of the voice acting that's different. Much of the dialog is translated differently.
