18.01.2026 03:05 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Harrison Ford's characters in general seem to follow a pattern. There's Deckard, obvs, but noone even told me that in the Lost Ark Indiana Jones explicitly had a relationship with an underage girl, then hooks back up with her later on screen in a "romance" subplot. But people still love that film???
18.01.2026 02:39 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0That's even if you only take it at face value, which everyone seems to do now. When it was popularised, it was a white nationalist dogwhistle. Normalising has made it an even better dogwhistle. When it was only fascists using it, it was obvious what they meant. Now they have plausible deniability.

A poem for June illustrated with ox-eye daisies and a butterfly. The poem reads "On the fragrant mead, among the new-mown hay, we see the daisies tall, that bloomed but yesterday now with'ring with the grass- their transient glory gone, and in their lesson see the fate of everyone."
A poem for July illustrated with convolvulus flowers. The poem reads "In the dew of Summer morn, are thy varied blossoms born- born to meet the Sun's first ray, soon, too soon, to pass away. Look upon them, for they say- 'Do your duty while you may, lest you die, your work undone, and may se no morrow's sun.'"
Unexpectedly, while most months have joyful & hopeful poems, the chromographs for the heights of Summer, June & July, have 'momento mori'. โ ๏ธ

A rustic floral still life painting in progress. It's a dark room, run down, perhaps a potting shed. On a bench is a Crown brand glass jar with a cut flower arrangement, orange rose, pink fancy tulip, a white rose, & other flowers. To the right of the flowers are 3 cut pink roses and a lit candle. Some foxglove, a fern frond, daisies, a pear & work gloves are on the bench. The back wall has peeling burgundy wallpaper over crumbling plaster. The light of a window is cast on the back wall. A mouse is reaching for a raspberry, a hummingbird is hovering near a red monarda & 3 fireflies are aglow in the top right.
A closer look at the floral display, the hummingbird, snail, butterflies & the mouse.
A close-up of the candles, shears, gloves, daisies & fruit on the right side of the painting.

Dark walls and silhouettes of trees and bushes on either side, with old stone buildings on the right disappearing into the fog. At the back some more trees and further back the outline of a gothic pointy tower just about visible in the fog.
A foggy stroll over the solstice last week. If you like fog, gloom, and old graveyards you might want to stick around.

Nolan does seem like a weird guy so maybe he was out of touch like that, but then why were audiences into it? Only thing I can think of is anxiety about the "war on terror", but terrorism is only one of several themes in the trilogy. Doesn't explain why the other themes were also well received. Idk.

It was especially weird because the timing. Why Nolan felt the need to put out a film with a strong antirevolutionary message in 2012 is beyond me. It's not like that year was some big revolutionary moment. Like was he that afraid of the Occupy movement? Why? It was nonviolent, not insurrectionary.
09.12.2025 19:56 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I'm not usually a film contrarian, but I fucking hated these films. Pretentious, drag on, & their political message is extremely conservative. The last film is nakedly right wing propaganda. I was so confused watching them when they were coming out, seeing everyone praising these films & Nolan.

High heels with a wizard's robe is a bold look for a gnome. He may not be in full armour, but he has my respect regardless.

Snow covers the floor and drifts in from the open archways. Daylight illuminates the structure through the broken walls. Scattered stones lie across the ground. There's a door to right, with a painting hanging over it. To the left, there's statue of a saint on the wall next to a doorway.
