There Is a Psychic War Being Waged On Your Soul Today's comic was written and penciled by my wife! (I did inks and colors) I am very proud of her and want to encourage her to make more art and speak her mind. The neighborhood my wife and I live in is a battleground. Dueling graffiti marks the signposts, walls, and pavement. Messages of love and mercy to the Palestinians being starved and murdered, vs insults against these messengers and calls to bring home the remaining Israeli hostages.

We’re Moving Up in the World, Baby! All of us really do seem to exist in parallel worlds now. Talking to clueless liberals who seem utterly unaware of the terrifying reality facing trans people right now. Witnessing right wingers fabricate an entire fiction where trans people are responsible for every mass shooting and terrorist action. Massive internet meme-cultures that are incomprehensible to outsiders. My understanding is that there are apparently scores of people who had only ever known Charlie Kirk to be a sort of inspirational speaker who encouraged hard work and going to school?

Keeping the Dream Alive: A Belated 10 Year Anniversary of Life of Bria This week's comic is my first in... a while. I've made no secret in these blog posts how I've felt 'stuck' when it came to making comics. Whether it's feeling trapped by the exhausting pressures of social media, discouraged by the state of the world and the evident failure of beliefs I once held about the power of art to effect social change, or simply just dissatisfaction in my line art vs my landscape paintings, comics just haven't been forthcoming for me, even as I have resurrected this blog and done my best to post regular updates.

For the Sake of Something Beautiful: Reinventing Art, Gender, and Self It looks like I'll need to update my previous blog post, because I recently discovered one more postcard painting from my 2024 series, "In the Spaces III". This is actually the first of these paintings I ever did, and it was done at this time back in 2023, when I first got the postcard watercolour paper that I would use for the project while I was visiting Sophie Labelle in Finland.

Painting Madness! "Choklit View" from ITS #2. A view of downtown from Choklit park, near my home. In May of 2023, I began upon a project of learning to paint. I started out doing loose plein air sketches of landscapes in a cheap little book using dollar store water-colour paints. Over the course of the Summer, these paintings became increasingly complex, and once I had filled the first book, I immediately set out to bind a new book out of dollar-store water-colour paper and began on the next iteration of landscapes, which were even more complex than the last.

Buff Aunt Bria’s Fighting Spirit I won the Fighting Spirit Award! There are moments you build up in your mind that can never live up to the image in your head, and then there are moments that loom so large in your mind that you don't know what to do with yourself once they are over. Things that occupy your every waking thought and action for such a long time that coming back to the rest of reality after they've past leaves you directionless.

Being Recognized For Who You Are Isn’t Nothing There are moments that you build up in your mind for so long that, when they finally come, there is no way they could ever live up to whatever your idea of them was. I remember reading trans people's depressed accounts of not feeling "different" post-transition - it's not that transition wasn't a powerful and necessary process for them, but that after years and years of yearning for something that seemed impossible, they expected to feel fundamentally different once they had "crossed the threshold".

What is A Self-Defense? I originally came up with the concept for this week's comic probably about 10 years ago, and while I have long kicked myself for leaving it on my massive pile of unfinished projects and unrealized ideas, I am thankful that I never published it before now. When I first wrote it, this comic was, in my mind, about feminism. It's commentary was meant to be something about the asinine misogynist line of "

I'm an artist, and people have repeatedly told me that Bluesky is the platform for artists. But I think Bluesky has blocked me from posting images? Every post I've made in the past few days that has an image has just displayed as a black square. What the hell good is this place if I can't post art?

Well, How Convenient For You… I honestly can't remember if I ever posted this comic before. As I've written before, I have so many comics that I've done and then just sat on, I can't always keep track of what's been put where. Yeah... I could have checked if I posted it anywhere, but.... nah. Luckily, greed and evil are evergreen content! During this time of terror and uncertainty in the face of rising fascism in the United States and their Genocide Colony, Israel, so many people are hurting and in need of help.

I'm super proud of this art I did for my grappling coach to thank him for helping me prepare for the 2025 Vancouver Sumo Competition. (which I won! 😀)

He's a big fan of 90's comics, and I had a fun time trying to capture the look of some original art from that era, right down to the blue pencil.

I mean, that's the healthy way to be.

But making your body grow more that it may be naturally inclined to be will require eating *more* than you want to - especially if you are not a naturally large/muscular person. It comes down to how important gaining muscle is to you.

Dumb question: How much do you eat?

You need a good 500-1000 calories ABOVE your daily needs in order to effectively build muscle.

9/10 gym guys who would ask me for advice on why they can't get bigger simply weren't eating anywhere near enough.

Artificial Intelligence and American Decline Something very disturbing is happening with the proliferation of artificial intelligence

AI is the ideal technology to accompany the decline of America.

It caters to the entitled, to those who have no desire to learn and think they know everything, it destroys creativity and critical thinking, and lays the cultural foundation for fascism.

The serious concerns over how the Order will detrimentally impact transgender
youth cannot be overstated. One Washingtonian, as her parents describe her, was a bright and
gentle soul who loved playing musical instruments, trying new things, and playing Magic the
Gathering. She was excited to learn Japanese and the impact of gender-affirming care was
immediately clear to her family. Her parents described that “her joy was clear with every new
milestone in her transition. She was so happy to get to the next step, to get closer to presenting
in a way that was true to herself.” But the day before the presidential election, she shared,
“[t]omorrow I get to find out if I’m illegal.” After the election, she asked her parents if they
could move to Canada because she was fearful of new restrictions on transgender youth and
worried about losing access to gender-affirming care. In January 2025, she took her life. After
the Order issued, her parents expressed that the outlook for transgender futures looks scary and
shared fears of what ending gender-affirming care would have meant for their daughter’s access
to therapy, puberty-delaying medication, hormones, and hope of surgery. Her parents have
expressed fear for the many lives who depend on gender-affirming care and that what happened
to their daughter does not happen to any other children.

In a new lawsuit filed against Trump by state AGs, a family with a trans kid shares she died by suicide last month citing fears Trump would deny her access to gender-affirming care. "Her parents have expressed fear...that what happened to their daughter does not happen to other children."

I don’t know what works, exactly, but I know what doesn’t work.

What doesn’t work is the endless and obsessive search for the “one right way” to fix the world. There is no single vanguard who can save us, just like there is no politician or revolutionary leader who will lead us all into a bright, shining future. There’s also no single ideology–not even my beloved anarchism–that’s going to do it.

The Zapatistas have a saying that lives in my head, that they’re fighting for a world in which many worlds are possible. If we are fighting for a pluralistic, multicultural world, then we must fight for it in pluralistic, multicultural ways.
