I think I'll try to use a behavior tree, and let the AI react to what's happening and how the player is playing. So, if you're aggressive, it can either retaliate or go on the defensive and try to hit back when able to.

It will also depend on how well I can realize my ideas :D

About a week in, and my #picotron fighting game test is taking shape. Hit/hurtboxes, blocking, chip damage, hit/blockstun and a basic AI (for testing) are all in place. So is input buffering, so next on the list are the special moves and combos.
