Are there any chess engines that will show me the move most likely to succeed, assuming all follow up moves are played at my own (lousy) playing ability?

03.08.2025 08:36 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I'd forgotten about the tiny subconscious pause before firing in an FPS to make sure the engine had caught up with your aiming inputs.
I didn't realise how much of a handicap that was at the time.
I should have spent more $$ on hardware.
I've been farting around with DosBox cycles to try to approximate hardware I used to own.
I've realised that "Init DOOM refresh daemon" was the first PC performance benchmark.
If you could imagine me 6 inches taller, and with a Ferrari, please. That'd be swell.

1000 years ago there was no trace of you.
But now, here you are.
=> There is a greater than 0% chance the universe can transition from you not existing to you existing.
1000 years later you will not be here.
How is that different from 1000 years ago?
I can confirm that 249x does not make a playable Doom experience.
01.08.2025 05:20 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I found the turbo assembler source too.
It also has logic to intercept and prevent anything setting the "double speed threshold", which I guess must have been a thing in the DOS mouse driver.
Digging through some old DOS stuff and found a mouse sensitivity TSR I wrote some 30 years ago.
Still works (in DosBox).
VR games really need a "hand size" slider. Having tiny hands really weirds me out.

Perhaps they have a very budget "GPU" to manage the overlay UI..
How can a monitor have a sub 1ms response time, yet take 3 seconds to respond when you press a button on the bottom of it?
What is it doing for those 3 seconds?
I need someone to reboot me
27.07.2025 10:27 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I'll get right onto it. As soon as I've finished looking up the ingredients for black tea.
27.07.2025 10:21 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I checked the ingredients list on my box of black tea. It said "Ingredients: Black tea.". Now I'm stuck in an infinite loop.

I think it is the first time I'm animating a fish-style creature, turned out better than I expected!

Too many spheres don't have adequate ventilation..
But yeah, it's mainly a test case for the octree building and the renderer.
But once that's all working I want to play with procedurally generating some organic scenes. I'm thinking plants, rocks, mushrooms etc.
See where it goes...
Basic voxel sphere is working.
(Albeit with a hole.)
I have accidentally created the infinite multiverse..
06.07.2025 10:31 โ ๐ 9 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Yeah, sort-of. It's performing a svo raycast. The right hand column is key variables (depth, node address, child index, valid and leaf masks) at each loop itern. Coloured squares are what direction taken it stepped in the octree. Red = down, green = sideways, blue = up.
The left side is the data.
Arguably the debug data looks cooler than the shader...

04.07.2025 23:36 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0ok there we go- the proporpions and the trim are working better for me. i added a second layer of subtle folded noise over the spheres (pardon my weird glitchy lighting after generation).

(And someone just bought it for $4, so I'll shut up now ๐)
Somehow it doesn't translate to sales though ๐.

It looks like it's being displayed in the "fresh games" list, which gives it a chance of coming up on the main page.
Then the extra views appear to have bumped it up on other lists, so it snowballs a bit I think.
