This seems like a quick fix, unless your very life hung in the balance. The motto of the Statue of Liberty didn't mention only people who speak English or weren't running for the lives. Deporting everyone is a convenient way if you are not personally impacted, for those who are a death sentence.

Some of the responsibility is our government not funding/staffing ports of entry. We have not managed this well, because politically there was a need for cheap labor and no appetite to spend the $ needed to manage the volume. Waiting your term is not how the asylum system works globally.

The whole country does not speak English as a first language. Many speak multiple languages. We are a country of immigrants. We are from many cultures, speaking many different languages. Certainly, most of us speak English, but that does not mean all must.

There are so many ways to communicate beyond sharing a common language - a wave, a smile, etc. I live in a community where all my immediate neighbors speak English and I rarely every share more than these gestures. Works like a charm. It's called community.
