Oh, it seems that since SCOTUS agreed to hear the case, the tariffs remain in place until they rule.

All Robert's court rulings since the "we have a king" ruling should be considered wrongly decided once a sane court is put back in control, imho.

Didn't a judge order all the "emergency" tariffs to be struck down on the 14th? Why are people acting like any gum flapping about new tariffs will have any weight? I get that news media is broken, but did I miss that order getting overturned or something?

SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

I know it happened because of social media since they mentioned in the email a social media post of mine looking for a pdf of an article about their disgracing, which means they were self-name searching in the wee hours of the morning. I was cackling when I read the email and explained it to Lizzy.

As a PhD candidate teaching a class of 50 undergrads, I got a rude, huffy email from a disgraced scholar at what appeared to be 4:30 am local time for them, trying to berate me into assigning my students their new book that explained "their side" of the conspiratorial "hit job" they suffered.

Dammit. I was looking forward to this movie. But it is super important to send messages with our wallets, so now I'm gonna have to skip it. Way to screw it up, Disney.

He could get a little pumpkin, as a treat. Sliders should be fine with that in their diet. I didn't even think of that possibility. Lizzy will love to feed him thin slices of it.

A yellow bellied slider turtle floats at the top of the water in his tank with his limbs splayed out. He is looking through the glass at a miniature pumpkin being held by the photographer, and he is giving it a quizzical look as if deciphering if he can eat it.

Kame-chan's favorite color is orange, and Lizzy found him a tiny pumpkin at the store. Immediately after this photo was taken, he tried to bite at it.

I mean, I get that they're targeting low-level speakers who can recognize and string these words together to create a positive emotional response that gets them in the door. But c'mon, AEON, I gave you two years of my life and I know your higher level students are judging you for this.

Stay strong and don't give in. Trust that voters are smart enough to place blame for the shutdown where it belongs: with the gop ghouls who want to make health insurance cost as much as rent.

Time and again I hear from people who don't mask that they choose not to because they don't want to be the "weird" one, or the outcast.

The more of us who do it the easier it becomes for others to do it.

There is no downside.

I made caramelized onions to go on our pork chops last night. Today I'm going to surprise Lizzy with some gruyere and onion grilled cheese using the leftovers.

Yeah, everyone on the panel thought it was rejection proof. But I guess the record number of applicants really means something more than just a fancy number. I think they said 2100 applications? One co-panelist joked that reviewer 3 must have been a dog person.

Ahhhhh, bullocks. Our AAS panel on cats in Japanese literature didn't make the cut. That's a shame, but I'll still be finding my way to Vancouver just to catch up with people and visit my old digs. Probably good that that paper is off my plate. I'll have... other things to keep me occupied, heehee.

Gotta admit, I've had moments of wondering, "Magats are so easy to scam; could I make some easy money off them to help me pay rent?" But I just wouldn't be able to live with myself if I defrauded people like that. Right wing grifters are missing a piece of their soul.

Went down to Baltimore this week to visit my sister. It's a decently nice city. The national aquarium has a very pleasing ratio of exhibits with turtles in them, but I couldn't spot the Kemp's Ridley turtle they had in their big tank!
