Good luck with your trip in the meantime. We'll wave as we pass each other in stopped traffic on 90/94.

Will check in sometime, if there's a chance. There's always LA, as well, though we're usually only there part of the year.

Ah, other side of the state from us, though we occasionally drive to Cleveland for the art museum. We do regularly make it to Chicago too, though, should a future lunch or cup of coffee ever sound appealing!

Oddly enough, I am making the exact opposite trip this morning, otherwise I'd ask you exactly where!

this is an obvious overcorrection that misleads the polling data and will lead to disaster in the Heartland. the results of tonight show that the Democrats should moderate: adopting two or at most three of the five pillars of Islam

Not to mention Johnny Got His Gun, a National Book Award winner and all-time classic, which he wrote and published in 1939! (I cannot speak one way or the other, in this case, to the involvement of his bathtub.)

Someone in a Teams meeting just said β€œIt’s the old chicken and the egg question isn’t it? Why did they cross the road?” then realised what they’d said and turned their camera off.

Ha! Yes. True on all counts, and yet delicious.

The other wonderfully crazed drink recipe we still have from those days is Belle's Chatham Artillery Punch. Definitely also not for the faint of heart.

We have often made and enjoyed your long-ago-posted eggnog recipe!

Ha! I suppose that depends who's evaluating.

I didn't get even remotely ill, though, which some might interpret as dumb luck. I prefer to think of it as evidence of a heroic, finely calibrated constitution.

In my mid-teens I thawed and ate a pound bag of gray shrimp, convinced the problem was the lack of cocktail sauce, and not the fact they hadn't been cooked. My parents were nonplussed.

Maybe they're too busy also failing to see the naked women hidden in the glint of its iconic cover's eyes.

The first two who come to mind for me are Sam Shepard and Peter Boyle, whom I first encountered through The Right Stuff and Everybody Loves Raymond, respectively. Buried Child! True West! The Candidate! Young Frankenstein! etc., etc. Little did I know.

A woodpecker perches in profile, aslant, on the side of a hefty moss-scaled branch. Golden light washes everything, filtered through the surrounding canopy of yellow and orange autumn leaves. Fall is here, and today's palette is the proof. (No filter.)

I first learned this one, of all places, in the Air Force communications guide, which I read in some detail for research, not as an enlisted person, but when teaching comp as a grad student.

How about "ultracrepidarian"? Pretty rare, but still quite topical.

The other show I immediately think of is NYPD Blue, which, now that I look, premiered a full six years earlier, in 1993. There was definitely a moment for the hand-held style, but you're totally right that its influence on today's TV and film is legion.

Do you remember how many people claimed to feel ill because of the hand-held cinematography? That was a pretty common response, too, and it almost feels quaint now.

No! No bad choice. I once tried to comfort a friend going through a breakup with a screening of Leaving Las Vegas, so at least you know it can't possibly be as wrongheaded as that.

Pizza Hut logo, with the words "Pizza Hut," meaning "Pizza Hat" in German, printed in black under a red roof that looks exactly like a hat.

Which reminds me: I've personally heard multiple Germans bring up how shocked they were, after an initial childhood misunderstanding, to learn that this logo does not represent a company whose symbolic core is headwear. The word "hat" is in the name! Under a depiction of a red hat!

Bravo, you make a good point. I hereby remove the above hat from the hat already on top of the danish.
