Back in May 2021 I posted on twitter about a journey I'd undertaken to find a tree that I can see from our bedroom window. I've decided to post it verbatim on here as lots of people really enjoyed it. So, here it is…

Ooh, I love that you write about the city's cemeteries! I find Mt. Carmel especially fascinating for its oddball combination of Catholicism and connection to the history of organized crime. Even wrote a poem about it myself at one point, though sadly as yet unpubbed.

That said, I also really value the folks I've interacted with there. Lots of good conversation over time, though largely topic specific--photography, film/TV, etc.

Yup, I'm still there, though pseudonymously. (Certainly happy to find you and say hi, if you'd like.) I personally don't mind the multiple servers--there are feeds that let you interact across most everything--but in truth I find this place a little more congenial. More active, less serious.

Cliché, sure, but truly, try to relax and be yourself--you're meeting a potential friend and creative ally. Share a story that makes you you; connect it to a script you're especially proud of; listen, listen, listen. What are *their* dream projects? Do they have any advice for you specifically?

Mastodon feels pretty European to me, though of course it isn't solely. Created by a German developer, anyway.

I love digital photography, but I really do think the safety net in post is so huge that we've lost much of the precision necessary for film. (I'm sure *you* still have that level of craft--just speaking of the broader environment.) What was your subject? Like a static center amid lots of movement?

Aside from Richard Smith being awesome, the other thing I take from this video is about the way art works. The music industry is a mess of commercial fakery but that never eliminates entirely the space for passion and talent.

Just like how ceramic artists exist in a world where Ikea sells crockery.
