Nice, took a while for me to recognize, because the galaxies I am used to seeing red are white or blue in this image and it's tilted a bit with respect to the iconic HUDF.

At Winter AAS 2003 (first ever), my advisor told me:
"You need to attend Tony's presentation, he might come to Davis."
"Why do I need to care?", "Because of LSST!", "What's LSST?
"Tanya, just go, it will be awesome!"
Yes, Bob, you were right, it is freaking awesome!

This image shows another small section of NSF-DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory's total view of the Virgo cluster. Visible are two prominent spiral galaxies (lower right), three merging galaxies (upper right), several groups of distant galaxies, many stars in the Milky Way galaxy and more.
This image combines 678 separate images taken by NSF-DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory in just over seven hours of observing time. Combining many images in this way clearly reveals otherwise faint or invisible details, such as the clouds of gas and dust that comprise the Trifid nebula (top right) and the Lagoon nebula, which are several thousand light-years away from Earth.
This image shows a small section of NSF-DOE Vera C. Rubin Observatory's total view of the Virgo cluster. Bright stars in the Milky Way galaxy shine in the foreground, and many distant galaxies are in the background.
The Rubin Observatory will make the most detailed time-lapse images of the universe ever. It will map dark matter & and dark energy, and spot billions of transient cosmic events.
Incidentally, it will also take breathtaking images. First looks, out now: ๐งช๐ญ

Just spent an amazing three weeks in Aspen debating Lya emitters, among others with these 3 wonderful ladies from Iran, Japan and France. We thrive when we come together. I was so sad to see Hasti being worried the whole time about her parents in Tehran. We forget so much about the human side.
