One has to be at the far extreme spectrum on the stupid scale not to see it. You can call it denial, of course.

To be fair, most things I buy disappear from supermarket shelves.

Their cocoa powder actually disappeared from supermarket shelves.

Starmer can sleep well. His American friends will make sure Farage will take over and Labour will not get into power in our lifetime. So taking no risks is a good preparation for the British Vichy government. His personal safety will be guaranteed.

Start dumping U.S. treasuries on Monday and crash the markets. Accelerate the inevitable.

That’s not what’s happening. And this is not positive for Ukraine.

It seems that an indictment in the U.S. under whatever pretext gives the right to the U.S. to kidnap any foreign citizen from a foreign country. This is, effectively, the start of the end of the rules based order. They want 3 dictatorship centres surrounded by soviet satellites.

Can’t wait to see a reaction from the government. It is contrary to British interests unless we have already succumbed to soviet style American satellite status.

An Amazon search has absolutely no value if you can’t find what you are looking for when your very specific and detailed search of a product is on page 6 of the search results. But look at Microsoft and Activision with XBox gamepass prices being hiked. Lina Khan was so spot on.

I rarely buy goods from Amazon these days even though I am a Prime subscriber. I ran out of my floss sticks that I had purchased on Amazon. So went to Amazon to search for the specific brand and could not find it. Somehow after a google search I was taken back to Amazon and there it was.

Miserable performance. The mentality of not going for a win after scoring an equaliser is despicable. Taking your shirt off and running to the fans instead of going to pick up the ball and taking it back to the halfway line is not exactly winning mentality. Pathetic.

What Starmer has just announced with Trump is horrendous. The United Kingdom will effectively cease to exist as a sovereign state in the long run. The funny thing is that Labour will be wiped out by a U.S. supported Reform anyway, so well done.

Self-censorship, self-preservation, many little moral compromises on a daily basis, samizdat, looking out for tiny islands of freedom, end of laughter. All this is coming near you. This site may be shut down at some point.

Absolutely. i understand that social media is destroying our democracy. But not addressing inequality, funding social services, healthcare, education, not trying to address the decline in productivity, our economy of rent seekers is a nihilistic strategy that will guarantee failure.

The Starmer government is doing everything in its power to lead us toward a Reform government. It is rudderless, always on the back foot, bad policy reactions, policies do not attempt to solve any of the structural issues we have been facing. There is an enormous shortage of capable leadership.

Trump appears to have had a health crisis. Will he die before America fully converts into an authoritarian regime. They clearly need him to complete it. Obviously, he also has to look strong while doing it. So a speech debilitating stroke could be a significant hurdle, too.

People should not expect any major pushback from the markets, definitely not in the short term. It's not rational to think that the markets will react to the expectation of the long term deterioration of economic conditions. Those will be heavily discounted into the present.

The 10-yr yield is now flat/down. There will not be a dislocation in the treasury market because of this. At least until there is a Supreme Court decision and even then if there is a spike in yields, it will be temporary.

26.08.2025 12:56 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 1

And it works very well. Self-censorship is an important modus operandi in an authoritarian regime.

At the extreme, it looks exactly how Imre Kertesz presents it in his book Fateless. Living under authoritarian rule eats your soul. Your whole body focuses on extending your at best amoral existence.

26.08.2025 10:15 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Oh yes, and businesses (also many individuals) will not complain out of fear of being targeted. You want to stay low and seem irrelevant, maybe they’ll forget about you. Existence under authoritarian rule is very different. You’ll lear and het used to it.

Finally, the costs of building out a fascist state and deconstructing the very institutions that had created wealth and prosperity for Americans (even if lately, inequality has surged and is undermining democracy) will manifest over the long term. Long term costs are discounted just like revenues.

Bad government data is really bad for economic decision and policy makers and it is socially suboptimal (immoral) but then again the Trump administration is not optimising on what is socially desirable and maximise wealth for the largest number of America’s citizens.

Hedge funds by the way love bad data, it gives them edge. My most successful trade this month has been because of a badly written article that contained inaccuracies. Hedge fund find other proxies to decipher what really is going on. So any hedge fund would welcome back government data.

In terms of the equity markets. The equity market returns have been driven over the past years, really a decade, by a handful of companies that innovated but also monopolised the digital economy, recently helped by the AI craze (genAI is not around the corner but it doesn’t matter, for now)

For a country like the United States, bond yields will not act like in a country such as the UK. Yields spike substantially when there is a structural dislocation in the Treasury markets.
