They probably just don't wanna risk it and I don't really blame them; ACE in Gen 1 and 2 CAN corrupt the save files of games they link to, of which I am 100% certain, and they probably expect to some degree it'll happen in these too, even IF they program in a few safeguards.

Arbitrary Code Execution! In terms of Gen 3, ACE has become a lot easier to perform and can do a LOT more in the last few years; including potentially affecting link battles online. A lot of this stuff was cleaned up after Gen 4 making this kinda stuff quite a bit harder.

In terms of online play it's probably them not wanting to recode things like the link system to prevent things like ACE or blatantly hacked Pokemon from being used during battle.

Absolutely disgusting its $20 though considering how EASY it is to emulate, and has been for decades at this point.
