Writer of words, knitter of yarn. Owned by two adorable cats. Slightly steamy, slightly sweet historical romance.

I know there are people in the insurance industry who just love RFK Jr because he's giving them the excuse they need to not cover stuff. Which saves them money while raising premiums.
I laugh because I am a fan of B5, Trek, SW, and Who and found myself nodding and agreeing. Thereβs being a fan and being A FAN. The latter? With extremely rare exceptions, avoid at all cost.

The illustrated cover of SECOND CHANCE ROMANCE by Olivia Dade (subtitle: "A Harlot's Bay Novel") is a warm peachy pink, with golden light coming from an overhead light fixture. The picture is set in a bakery, with racks of golden-brown pastries and loaves of broad. In the foreground, a pretty fat woman with long brown hair is sitting on a table, with a handsome fat man with ruddy hair and a beard standing between her legs. She has a hand tugging on his apron, and he has a hand on her thigh. They are nearly kissing and gazing at one another with desire and adoration.
SECOND CHANCE ROMANCE is warm, cozy, & out today. I hope you love it! π
The story: A cranky baker's erroneous obituary brings the woman who got away back into his life--& now he needs to convince her to stay.
The heat level: steamy!
The baked goods: plentiful!

But the idea this company is positioning their books as something to instagram with, showing it peeking out of purses, makes me feel it's more "book as accessory to make me look smart" than to actually read. Like it's trying to appeal to the performative reading folk.

Not seamless. There's a tag sticking out on one side.
I knit a Fair Isle cozy for my iPod NaNo once when I saw the ones they were selling at the Apple store. Took me about an hour. That one was seamless.
On a blue background are two old photos of a young man. On the left is a full-length one of him in full uniform (including puttees) outside a house. On the right is a head and shoulder portrait of him in uniform, a medal pinned on his chest. Below this, on the right, is a metal disk inscribed Samuel G. Hicks, Private First Class, Ambulance Company 145. On the left is a medal with a red bar with three white stripes at either end. Below that is a crown and suspended from that is a Maltese Cross with two swords crossed behind it. This is a Belgian Crosse de Guerre from World War I that was awarded to him.
Today we remember my husband's great-uncle, who served as an ambulance driver in WWI. Awarded the Belgian Croix de Guerre for the number of men he pulled off the field and got back to hospital alive, he did not speak of what he saw in those days.

I critiqued a manuscript where a young lady in the 1800s got from the Port of San Pedro to the San Gabriel Mission in a couple of hours.
I pointed out that, if there was traffic, I couldnβt get from San Pedro to San Gabriel in two hours with a car and freeways.
The illustrated cover for Enchanting the Fae Queen, by Stephanie Burgis, shows a mischievously grinning woman with long blonde curls, a moonstone crown, a pink dress and bare feet, sitting perched in a tree teasing the uniformed general who stands before her, his expression determined and one of his hands around her closest leg while she pokes his strong nose with one finger. Vines of leaves sweep magically out from the tree around her to draw him towards her. The tagline reads: Allβs fae in love and war. The text beside and below it reads: Lorelei released his arm as if it had burned her like the magic-repelling iron rails currently being planned by Imperial engineers to crisscross the vast Empireβpart of the mortal worldβs endless, vicious fight to extinguish the life and color from every corner of the continent. Meanwhile, the god of war and justice who stood at the head of the Imperial pantheon, Divine Jovar, smiled in benevolence upon His chosen fewΒ .Β .Β . Including the man who loomed before her now, certain and protected in his god-touched path of conquest. Unfortunately for him, Lorelei had her own divine sponsorβand more than enough personal stubbornness to move mountains.
